It depends on what type of construction, housing developers are sinking but commercial contractors always work.

SWFL-Native:
Where does your family live in Utah?
Have they had any problems with being accepted by locals?

I do know several contractors in the Layton area, so when I go there this week I will check out whats going on in the new construction. I heard is was almost at a standstill however. Like newtoutah mentioned, in the commercial building there might be more going on.

My neighbor is in residential construction. He's had no work for a couple months. My uncle owns a construction company, and he is working a commercial project now, but prior to that had no work for so long he nearly closed shop. Two years ago, he was so busy he couldn't keep up!

Two years ago it was NUTS. I worked in a building department in northern Utah and I couldnt believe the amount of house permits that went through there. I don't know how northern Utah is now days but I know southern Utah has slowed down.

Now I am really not sure about Utah. I spoke to my brother and he did admit that there was more than one instance that his 7 year old son had encountered. My nephew is doing much better at St. Joseph Catholic school in Ogden. Unfortunately, that is a different story when he gets home from school. There are only two children in the neighborhood that are allowed to play with him. That is a shame.
I really would love to move to Utah, but I do not want to put my boys through the pain of not being able to play with other children due to something as silly as their religious differences. Kids should be able to be kids and not have the added pressures of religion placed on them at such an early age.
