Meh, personally I think you would have had a much better experience living in Sugarhouse or maybe the Avenues but I understand you can't just move around the valley on a whim. But that's just me.

I myself don't see the value in our numbering system. "Oh wow this street is exactly twenty blocks west of Temple Square while this street is 123 blocks south of Temple Square." (That would be 20th West and 123rd South) Sure, it's like the streets and avenues in New York (34th St, 42nd St, 2nd Av, 8th Av, etc.) but our current system is a pain when talking to telemarketers on the phone. We should just go ahead and name our streets (like 33rd South "Construction Road" for whoever has been on it recently )

Yeah but in New York its a city..its not the whole state and there are names as well..its like DC with Northwest, Southeast, etc...but there are named streets and when u are on that road it doesn't all of a sudden change to another...for example...106th turns into 104th..WHY????????????????

Are you seriously saying the grid system out here is more confusing than the system in the DC area? I drove those roads for 5 years. There was no rhyme or reason to the layout there. The reason being most of those roads followed old cattle trails. So wherever the cattle wandered, there was your road. No straight lines, no grids or anything.

Here it’s quite simple. You have the center of a town at 0,0. 1 block north and 1 block east is 100 N. 100 E.

10 blocks north and 10 blocks east is 1000 N. 1000 E.

So 104 blocks south of downtown and 13 blocks east is 10,400 South and 1300 East or 104th and 13th in shorthand.

If you ever have to find an address that is 1040 N. 13th east, you can exactly find it, no GPS needed.

As for why 104th suddenly turns to 106th, well, that would be because the road is one of those exceptions that deviated from the grid system and had to make a curve or turn for some reason. Instead of now being 104 blocks south of downtown, it is 106 blocks south of downtown.

I can see both sides of the story. Easy to get use to (hopefully) but quite a scare having all of the crazy numbering.
St. Petersburg has similar street naming and it confused the heck out of me.
I just got use to using Google maps which helps make driving to different locations easier. It just takes a little time to get use to different things. Good luck!!
I wish I could be in UT!!

Do you think you'd like the snow? Coming from FL, that might be a fun change for you, if you like it that is.....

I love the snow. And, at christmas time, with the lights on the homes, and the snow on the ground, it makes it seem almost magical.........

I have been skiing/snowboarding before in CO and in PA, but not yet in UT. I cannot wait to try it out. I think my two boys and I would definitely love the snow. My wife would be very happy with a fireplace!!
