I think you get out of any place what you put in. FL is not boring if you get involved with the outdoor things it has to offer. Buy a small boat and sail, race them, or do day sails. Go fishing. Go running along the water (now that's a workout!). Scuba dive. Snorkel. Plus things others have mentioned. There is TONS to do there if you take advantage.
It's the same for UT. You could say "it's so boring just walking up these trails, once you've hiked a couple times it's all pretty much teh same." I know people who think that. Or you could do millions of hikes, many even in the same place and see different things each time. Ski. Mountain bike, etc.
Basically if you put the effort in, there are great things to do in most places. If you write it off, there aren't.

I can see your point. I take my boys to scout around by ponds and have been fishing. You can go to the same place and have a different adventure every time. My beef is the heat, humidity, and hurricanes.
I am not much of a beach person, but we do enjoy the pool in the neighborhood. I just think me and my two sons would enjoy the outdoors near the mountains. Give us a few years and we would explore every square inch. I just want a change of the season to enjoy, as well.
First and foremost is their education - have to have good schools for them (wherever we go/are).

I see what you are saying and definitely it makes sense to be in an area where the activities are what you want to be doing. I was more taking issue with the statements being made that there "is little to do" in one place or another. I think it's more that there is tons to do but you don't want to do it. Which is perfectly legitimate! Not everyone wants to scuba dive or sail but there are plenty of things to do, just not what you want to be doing!
Maybe a slight difference in wording, but I notice people blaming the place they're in a lot, rather than themselves (or I should say rather than admitting that they are the ones not taking advantage of what's there). I think most places have a lot to offer but can still not be right for everyone. I hope you can get to UT if that's where you want to be!

I moved to Utah from Coastal Georgia over a year ago. My DH & steps are all non-practicing LDS although when asked, they deny their momon roots (not sure why). Its been an interesting experience to say the least.
In the beginning I loved it, although the huge presence of the Church confused and amazed me. The honeymoon soon wore off and I found myself growing slightly bitter towards the whole thing. The things that drove me crazy was the modest dress, the liquor laws and every time I bought a pack of cigarettes or a six pack of 3.2 beer I felt like a felon or at the very least a beer swelling, chain smoking floozy. It probably didn't help that my neighboor is a disgrutled, ex-communicated mormon who happily and loudly shared all bad things LDS with me. Needless to say my education was flawed. I plotted, planned and dreamed of getting back to Georgia.
I got my wish this summer and we returned to Georgia for a visit. It seemed to me dirty and sad. I was glad to return to my home in St George and since have not looked back.
what I have found here is that Utahns are very family friendly. My kids are always busy and no one shuns them. My youngest did have another child ask her if she was LDS and she said no and he said he would no longer be her friend, but that didn't last long and the two are playing together again. I can let my kids walk to the park alone, ride their bikes to the commercial district and not have to inspect their Holloween candy . I can leave my keys in my car, not lock my doors and feel safe and secure even after dark. Its ironic that I now ask my kids if their play pals are LDS and feel much better when they say yes.
I am sure this will get some people screaming one way or another. I am trying not to be offensive but the mormons make great neighbors. The beauty of this state still leaves me speechless. I have traveled extensively around the USA and nothing compares to what I have in my own backyard.
LAFrench, it will probably take time getting acclimated to the area. Its hugely different from the good old South, but its a great place to raise kids, there is so much to do and see here that I have actually missed some Jag games on Sunday (and didn't complain). Speaking of Sundays, going out anywhere is wonderfully empty. My family is happy and safe. We are home.
Good luck on your move!

you are deffinatly right about that. There is plenty to do in florida, if your into what there is to do.. and alot of humidity lol... There is of course 10 million water sports you can do here, all of the theme parks, the everglades and so on.
Im personally just not that into them lol. I love watersports, but I hate the ocean. WAY to many things in there that can ruin your day and it happens all to often. sting rays, jelly fish, man of wars, of course sharks but thats not to often, and the million other wierd animals that you cant see. Then you have lakes. If your lucky enough to be able to afford to live on one, afford a boat or jetski and the toys to go with them then you still get to swim in murky water with gators swimming somewhere down there.. Not that im to scared of them, I just cant afford a boat, waterfront home or any of the toys haha

Yeh, now you'll just have to worry about mountain lions, moose, bears, rattlesnakes.....(I know not likely, but neither are ocean attacks )

There is plenty to do in FL. I am just not a hugh water activity fan.
We have never lived where there are four seasons. I long to live there one day.
My sons and I would have a blast with the hiking, camping, snowboarding, and other activities that UT has to offer. God willing... maybe one day we will be there.
