Probably just a person that has a beef with Daybreak.
You are in Draper, huh?

Good to hear!!
How have ya'll been in West Jordan?
Still thinking of moving to Daybreak? Do you know anything about Draper?
Sorry for all of the questions, but you seem to "shoot from the hip" and give honest answers.
Take care.

yeah when I moved here I was right down the road from draper (at 11400 south which is like one main road away from being in draper. I love the area. A bit expensive but its VERY convenient. Its pretty far south in the valley but has tons of shopping and the canyons are probably 10-15 minutes away (give or take) depending on where your at in draper.
I still want to move to daybreak, well see how it goes now that the wife is pregnant. I want to be sure to have plenty of spare cash flow so unfortunatly we might need to stay here a bit longer untill she can get working again. We can stay here and live off one income but moving to a house thats 2 times the size where we are will take a bit more

LAFRENCH,
Draper is a great area, new and tons of shopping. We looked at Draper but it seemed every other house was for sale when we were looking due to foreclosures, preforeclosures and relocations. We were afraid that we would lose a ton of money on our home with so many on the market. (We only have a 4 year contract). If the economy doesn't get better I think Draper homes may be worse off than where we purchased. Our neighborhood has a lot of "born and raised" families here so more homes are fully owned. It's starting to turn over a little in the older section, however the new section reminds me of Draper - huge homes that aren't selling. The other thing we didn't like about Draper is the lack of trees. Because it's much newer, there is not a whole lot of privacy. We are used to big trees on the East coast and I felt like the neighbors could see everything I'm doing. I need some privacy every now and then. Sandy has more mature trees. I have to say though as far as Sandy goes, we didn't like anything West of 1300 East. But it may be because we like being in the mountain more. It just wasn't as pretty to us. I figure if I move to Utah I need a great view of the mountains from my windows!
Cottonwood Heights is also another nice area. Reasonable homes, closer to Salt Lake and more diverse. It's also a quick ride to the Park City resorts as well as Solitude and Brighton. We looked there and liked it but wanted to be closer to the school - which is in Draper. South Jordan, West Jordan and Riverton are also reasonable with some great homes. Farther away from the mountains but still an easy commute to ski.
It is so beautiful here right now. You should bring the family for a visit. The skies are so blue and the sun is so bright. I imagine its pretty hot in Florida right now with a lot of humidity. The weather here is perfect now. Supposed to be 80 this weekend. AND NO HUMIDITY! Gotta love that! Except when I think of all the wrinkles I'm getting because it's so dry.

Ill actually be going back down to tampa this weekend for a visit.
I Agree that sandy and cottwood heights are nice areas. Of course the more east of 1300 you get the nicer it is. Id live to live up there off highland or wasatch blvd but with my salary I think its going to take a little while to get up there haha

Thanks for the answers. I like the location of Draper, just hope they are nice to non-Utahns. Still trying to convince my wife - she can be a tough cookie once she makes up her mind. But, I never give up.
I am more at peace near the mountains and would love to be able to spend countless hours with our two boys and all of the outdoor activities.
With the way the economy is now, we will need to win the Powerball.
Hopefully work does definitely decide to expand out west, as I have told them that I would love to transfer there if/when they need me.
Where did ya'll decide to buy a home? Have you or your family experienced any issues w/ not being LDS?
Ron

Forgot to mention the weather here in Tampa.... the past week we have been right around 90. We have been in a drought for about two years now. We finally got a good soaking yesterday afternoon and are expected to receive more rain throughout the weekend. Thank God, as we desperately need it bad.

We bought in Sandy - off of Wasatch. Great mountain views and valley views. Yes, unfortunately you are looking over $400K for those areas higher up the mountain. However most places you live even in the valley you will get good mountain views.
I tell people it's like the water on the east coast. The closer you are to the water the higher the price. Same here, the higher up the mountain the more expensive the homes. Your looking at $550K minimum for a home without upgrades and not a whole bunch of yard all they way to $5 mil.
We sacrificed newness and upgrades in our price range for the views - and cleaner air.
Square footage won't be the problem out here. All the homes are large compared to what you get for your money on the East coast. Don't forget, you have basements here as opposed to Florida. (We've lived in Tampa) Most homes have 3 car garages too so storage is definitely not an issue. It's really just the upgrades but if you know you're going to stay for a long time, buy an older home and upgrade it in time. If we had the time, I would have bought a total fixer upper and made it to my liking. I really love our home but there are a few things I would change if I knew we would be here for a long time. Right now isn't the time to be dumping money into upgrades.
Well, store all this info - hopefully some day you will be able to move.
Take care.
