I love Utah, but I have to disagree about no concern with getting sunburn here. I am also fair skinned, as are my daughters. We both have gotten pretty nasty sunburns here. The altitude here is pretty non-forgiving about that! My daughter is recovering from a second degree sunburn because she spent 1.5 hours (that is it!!) outside without any sunblock on.

Yeah, I think burning here is worse. Gotta be the altitude.

Understood. I guess what I meant to say was that "burn" time is less in Utah than here in Florida, since Utah has a shorter summer. Plus, Utah does not have the humidity that we have here, which is a plus!

As for Utah, my wife's family from Salt Lake City, Utah paid a visit here a couple months back and told us how nice Utah is. We had planned on going to North Carolina last month to check it out, but then decided to visit her family in Utah (at their request) and since we had never been out west we thought "why not?". We really enjoyed the great weather (and snow still on the monutains!) and the laid back, family frindly atmosphere. It was quite different from Florida and myself being fair skinned and easy to burn, it was nice to enjoy the outdoors without the concern of this happening. The grass and tulips (tulips EVERYWHERE!) were beautiful, bright and cheerful, with the grass is like that in New York, not like here in Florida. Now the challenge is working on a transition from here to there, with trying to find jobs there and selling a house here.

I would not have thought that one could get a sunburn living in the higher altitudes.
I stand corrected. Thanks for the useful advice, good people of UT.

Oh yes! You burn quicker and because it doesn't *seem* as hot as with humidity, you don't realize you are crispy until it is too late!

I spend a great deal of time in the high mountains here, and can definitely vouch for the nasty burns that come with increased altitudes. Less atmosphere to block radiation.

It's true that with the lower humidity, you don't feel the heat as much, but that's not the reason you burn quicker. You burn quicker because the atmosphere is thinner and the ultra-violet rays are more concentrated.

Okay, could be that too.
