Utah Culture
I saw your original thread from last year and wanted to share my view.
I am originally from redwood country in California and moved here after my divorce. I have to say that alot of the people are really nice and the area is pretty clean.
Yes there are alot of LDS here and be aware that everything here is influenced by the church. I am in the process of trying to get my house sold so i can move. Utah has been good to me but it is time to move on.
I have had reports from my son that he is propositioned on the bus to join the church to the point that I now drive him to school on my way to work. In addition when the students are taught state history it is relative to the church - teaching that the "prophit" led his people here.
I certainly respect each person to their choice of faith and lifestyle. However, my personal choice is not to remain subject to it.
Good Luck

^ I am honestly not surprised to hear about the schools teaching that sort of thing. not surprised one bit unfortunatly
Maybe denver would be a better fit for you anyways lafrench. Honestly one big reason for leaving ut, other then my family being here was that i didnt really want to raise a kid with such a huge lds influence. I think that utah would be an amazing place to raise kids other then the reason I just stated. There are so many kids, the schools seem decent and such a low crime rate but I guess it all depends whats more important to you.
I havent been to CO but I can only imagine that its landscape isnt much different then that in SLC therefore id assume you could easiliy still have the same outdoof fun just in a different city. This is just an assumption though, couldnt tell you for sure

I am so sorry to hear that you will be moving on.
I just cannot convince my wife that our boys will be OK if we would move to UT. I have her convinced as far as Denver, CO area.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you will be able to find somewhere that ya'll will be happy.
I guess I will start looking and applying in the Denver area and see what turns up.
Take care and good luck!!!

If I cannot convince my wife about UT, the next best thing for me would be Denver, CO area. Now I just have to start seriously researching the Denver area for jobs, schools, and homes.
I can see where you are coming from for not wanting to raise a child with such a heavy LDS influence. I am not bashing the LDS for their lifestyle or way, but they need to teach ALL of their followers that non-LDS are not all bad people. First get to know someone before labeling as someone as good or bad. Good people have faults too, as we are only human.
Take care,
LaFrench

I do believe that the LDS teaches that LA, but like anything, what you teach is only as good as the person learning it. You can teach and preach all you want, but people have their own thoughts and convictions.
In the same manner, I would like to say that we are all taught that racism is wrong. That doesn't stop some from practicing it...

I Can see where your coming from with that statement but honestly when most of there friends are mormon, there being taught that it is the correct thing in school and then outside of school there hearing it from there friends and friends families. Kids want to fit in, if being mormon is what makes them fit in theyll do it. (not all but im sure there are a good amount

It is sad that this still happens today. I tried my hardest to convince my wife, but she is not willing to change her mind. As much as it pains me, I must start researching the Denver area.
I just hope that someday (soon) the LDS people realize that non-LDS are not all bad people and that the LDS children shoould be taught to respect others religion, etc.... as others respect the LDS religion.
