That is good to hear. I will be checking back to this post as I find the people of UT very friendly to those who would like to move there.
I am hoping the real estate market will start rebounding soon, as to where we can get what we NEED to be able to sell.
I cannot wait to get out west!!!
My wife finally agreed to the suggestion of moving to the Denver area.
Now I just have to start doing my homework on areas, jobs, schools, etc.
It is always a pleasure to hear/speak with you.
Take care,
LaFrench

Thanks for all of the kind words.
I just wish I could have sold her on UT. At least I was able to get her to agree on Denver. The way I look at it is that I will eventually be moving out west. I can hardly wait for the opportunity to move out of the South.
37 years of heat, humidity, and hurricanes is more than enough for me.
I will check back every now and then and chat with the good folks of UT, as they have been truly kind and patient to me with all of my questions.
I bet you are counting down the days and cannot wait to get back to UT.
I hope it comes soon for ya'll.
Please let me know how it all works out for you.
Take care,
LaFrench

Hi everyone. Well, it's been a couple of months since I last posted here, but to give an update: my wife and I live in Florida (Orlando) and have been contemplating moving to Utah (she has family there), because we have gotten tired of how things are here in Florida (I'm a native Floridian for 44 years) and as LAFrench wrote, we are also tired of the heat and humidity (and the tolls and higher cost of insurance and etc.). We want to move to a place that has a touch of all the seasons and now, with me dealing with touches of skin cancer this past year (I'm fair skinned and auburn hair), it's getting frustrating trying to hide from the sun (quite a challenge in the "sunshine state"!). We visited the family in Layton this past April and simply loved it. We know leaving jobs in Florida and starting over in Utah will be challenging, but we feel the pros of having a "life" in Utah (rather than staying inside all the time) is important, plus the support of my wife's family makes it that much easier. We put our house on the market about 1 1/2 months ago and yesterday signed a contract to sell it! We have until 11/18 to close. We will stay here at least for the rest of the year and then make our relocation move to Utah starting in January. We are nervous and excited and trust God in all of this, who gave us 3 offers on our home this past week! I'll try to to keep you posted on how things go, but thought I would just share the news.

We ended up in Bountiful, Davis County. Mostly because that was where we randomly found a place over the internet. Odd thing is, Utah is about as safe as it gets. I see ppl with cars and houses unlocked all the time. Never seen that in Orlando.

Do you children attend public or another school?
Do you have to drive into SLC for your jobs? If so, how is the commute?

Sorry for the late reply. Yes my daughter attends public school (and loves it) but my son goes to a private preschool (I don't think they even have public preK in Utah.. ). My daughter went to a charter school in Orlando and I think that gave her a advantage when we moved here. I am still worried that she is being underserved but we try to make up for it by doing extra things at home. She really loves her school.
I don't drive too much. Fortunately, for all its faults, SL Metro's public transportation is 100 years ahead of Orlando's. I am able to walk less than 2 blocks to a bus stop which drops me off less than 1 block from my office. I took the bus so often when we first moved here, my car's battery died! Plus being a FL driver, I wasn't too excited to drive in snow and ice (more scared of the other drivers than the elements, but I digress).
Hope that answers your questions. Yes Utah is different. But we like it. Our quality of life is much better here.

Good day people of UT?
How has the weather been?
I would love to be there to see the snow on the ground.
Please attach any pics so I can see what I am missing.
Thanks,
LaFrench

Weather was beautiful (low 70's) until last night when a stormed rolled through. It is chilly (mid 50's) and rainy today.
No snow yet on the valley floor, although the mountains have some.
