California transplant-non LDS
So, I've been here for almost two months now, and I'm getting kinda used to Utah. I still miss California dreadfully, and would love to be warm again, but life here, really is what you make of it. Yes, I am non-LDS, and that doesn't seem to be a problem at all. My neighbors all made the effort to stop by and welcome us to the neighborhood, I had the two local missionaries at my door, and the local bishop and friend also stopped by. Once. They don't badger at my door, like some would have you believe. I have a daughter in her junior year at high school, and she has made quite a few new friends and has made the adjustment to a new school and new state, better than I had hoped for!
It's all in your attitude!!! There are some things here, that I'm finding common place, such as a lack of customer service skills, which make people seem rude, but I just smile and ask if they're having a bad day. Other things, I just adjust my schedule around. If you want to grocery shop without having your ankles hit by small children with small carts then shop on Sunday, or after 7pm. The stores are empty. The same for eating out...go later in the evening. All in all, LDS or non-LDS, life in Utah is what you make of it.
