One of the worst things about living in Utah is hearing everyone complain about it lol. That would be the only thing. Oh and the construction going on. I was stuck on Bangeter (sp) highway with my daughter by the Jordan Commons area for an hour. I used to think the drivers were bad but they were not too bad this trip. Maybe I have mellowed a little!

My top 10 (not in any particular order):

1. While I'm not anti-Mormon (my best friends belong to the Church), there is too much Mormon influence in Utah politics IMHO
2. Never-ending construction
3. One day it's hot and sunny, the next it's damp and cold (though this isn't always bad)
4. Horrible drivers
5. Dumb liquor laws
6. Liberals such as Rocky Anderson ruining projects such as the Legacy Parkway
7. Weird Salt Lake City city-council - they vote to demolish the center of Sugarhouse and replace it with a commercialized version while they reject a new Walmart up at Parley's Way (Walmart will have to make do with a 40-year-old existing building that Kmart took up)
8. Dead downtown
9. Local media talking about the risk of earthquakes and how we will die in an apocalypse every month
10. Seclusive LDS members that have such a closed mind they will not associate with those outside the Church; that bugs the hell out of me

However, the pros outweigh the cons by far and I love it here

1. Its Utah
2. Alcohol - the people treat people under 18 like babies, and people over 21 like children. State liquor stores only sell hard liquor. No kegs. Weird drinking laws in general.
3. The Nightlife - Absolutely pathetic.
4. The seperation of church and state, rather lack thereof. The LDS church runs the show and the people are naive about it.
5. Job Market and salaries.
6. Alot of phony people - come off as understanding, but really are closeted judgmental people
7. There are only six days in a week since Sunday is closed.
8. Us vs. Them mentality
9. Chain restaurants are the rave
10. The undeserved sense of importance in the US

1. horrible weather most of the year-- too hot or too cold; nonexistent spring
2. epicenter of LDS <Mod Edit -- Let's please call it a "Religion" or "Church">
3. terrible wages
4. pollution. it is polluted most of the time, not just during the inversion
5. anti cultural, "us versus them" mentality.
6. lack of good, upscale "adult" type restaurants
7. area very family oriented but not relaxing or fun-- the Texas hill country, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Corpus Christi are three "family oriented" areas where I have lived; all three are more fun and relaxing
8. judgemental Mormons. even the nice ones are judgemental
9. workplace bias: sexism, racism, ageism
10. Christmas season not festive or relaxing enough. I go to Albuquerque every year for Christmas and am always amazed at how many more people put up lights and really get in to the season. Gosh, I wonder why that is....

I'll agree with these and #5, Budweiser will turn there nose up to Utah because many of there products will pulled from the shelf to be sold in the State stores because of yet another stupid Utah law of removing all mix drinks sold in super markets Starts Oct 1st

For those that couldn't resist saying "don't let the door hit me in the <Mod Cut Removed Profanity>
Well if it did I'd at least know I was finally leaving

People who complain about the weather here, try living in the Northeast where it rains every few days year round. It's rare to go more than 3 or 4 days without. And it's not like here when a storm blows through and is gone, it's never ending steady rain for days at a time. In between, it's so humid and muggy that you feel like you have a layer of slime on your body. Even in the winter, since global warming, most of the winter precipitation is also rain - and there is just nothing worse that 35 degree rain, and feeling cold and damp. They get a little snow, but not much.

I am loving the weather here in the month I've been here. Most days are cloudless blue sky, and the so called non-existent mid season seems to be going on now. How can anyone complain about beautiful sunny days in the 70's and low 80's, and then it cools down at night. And if there's pollution, I haven't seen it or smelled it. Again, the Jersey turnpike has it beat with all the smelly refineries, plus there are so many more cars on the road in NY/NJ. The sky never gets as blue there as it is here. It's all relative, but I think the weather is great here. And yes, I know it will be worse in the winter, but from what I've heard, it's no colder than where I was, and again, the cold is more tolerable when it's not so damp.
