Utah Teaching Opportunities?
Hi,
I'm looking to relocate from Michigan to Utah to teach next year. I've heard that it's a growing state, but I want to hear from people on the ground. Are there plenty of teaching opportunities in Utah? I can teach grades 7-12 in Social Studies, History and English.
Any responses would be great,
Thanks,
Mackinac

There definitely are some opportunities. There's a teacher shortage in the state right now, and I'm sure they can use whatever help they can in getting teachers.

The past few years districts have been having trouble getting teaching positions filled before school starts. The bad news... teacher pay is low.

Well, the good news is I'm frugal, single and it'll at least be a start to my career in a halfway decent area. If I won't be paid much, I'd rather it be someplace nice as opposed to...say...the great plains

Are you looking in Southern or Northern Utah? The school district in Southern Utah I work for is excellent and it is a great place to live.

I'm open to working about anywhere. I would just need a place where I can rent. I've heard Southern Utah is amazing. What district are you in?

Iron County School District
Cedar City is a great place to live a simple life. You won't find much in fancy shopping or dining. It is a college town.

Thanks Toby. College towns are always high on my list. I'll keep an eye on it.

Be aware the pay in Utah is extremley low. I live not far from the UT/NV border on the NV side, and I would say 1/4 to 1/3 of the teachers in out district started out teaching in Ut but moved to NV because they pay was much better in NV.
