To Live in Utah or not - Relocating
The Random act of violence by one disturbed young man, has left a scar on our beautiful city. Safe? What is safe? There are no dangerous areas, just dangerous people. Crime is so low in this area compared to other areas and to profile certain areas as higher in crime in my industry is against the law. The Buyer should contact local law enforcement for statistics, and other trend data readily available on real estate websites, next work with a full time professional relocation expert who will match your life style needs with that of your desired location, schools and other personal matching criteria. Trolley Square is not a dangerous place, the troubled young man with the gun was the danger. How do you think his parents feel, family, and friends. He took several innocent lives then he took the cowards way out, suicide by law enforcement. Salt Lake and her surrounding areas have so much to offer a family, from the quality of standard of living to the unlimited outdoor activities, I would hope that most can see past the drama played out. The cities of the Wasatch Front, from Lehi to Willard are all "safe".

It is healthy to think and remind ourselves of this sage advise. HOWEVER, given the current circumstances IT MUST BE ADDRESSED AND ANSWERED, "Is this another Islamic Jihadists attack?" No one is asking, but assurances are repeatedly given not to jump to conclusions. I have found that whenever information is blocked, some sort of "fix" may be in the works...usually , say a minor, famous or high profile local,or a politico were involved. Local media relayed very little facts, even the number of dead, for over 16 hours! WHY the slow release. I go to overseas news via internet immediately. This young man's name and life history-with juvie arrests, ethnicity and religion were reported over the air in the UK 4.5 hours after it happened while we tried to sleep peacefully, not knowing anything.. Living 25 miles from the place it happened, I could get no answers, not even the number killed. All that was relayed locally was "ear witnesses", as they waltzed by..! I am upset. I want answers, not TOLD TO BE TOLERANT. TOLERANCE is what caused this. I dislike being lied to, and witholding information is worse than a lie, it is adding angst and worry because no one can begin to process their own feelings without any data about what happened, by who, and why! Sorry, but we are at war with the twin of this type of evil if not an Islamic attack, of some sorts! We must know, and the evil Lad's community, family and friends so far have failed to even offer a public sympathetic notion of any kind or nature, but have pointed blame at their hosts to freedom...and to blame the state and citizens of Utah for lack of money and support to refugees. Excuses no longer cut the mustard. I am sorry to be this way, but tell me what I need to know so I won't.... de Mo'Mann

info on 'shooter'
Just looked up info on this 'shooter' in the news, after reading your post.

BTW, that stuff is going on all around the globe, so it doesn't affect our decision on Utah at all. Sure feel for all the victims and those hospitalized - all their families & friends. To think they were just enjoying their day, shopping at the mall, just hanging out, and out of the blue this tragedy happens. That can happen anywhere in the U.S. tho', so we can't hold it against Utah.

Reportedly the shooter was a Muslim and the authorities found jihad oriented literature in his apartment. They say that there is no evidence of a connection to an organization, but rather that he acted alone. It's looking to me like there is a fix in so as not to declare this an act of Islamic terrorism, even though it probably was.

What is your source showing he had jihadist literature? I have not heard that anywhere else.

It has been reported in the local media that he is a Muslim and attended some local mosques. He also has a significant history of violence.
With respect to the items found in his apartment, there's nothing official that I can quote, just unofficial rumors. The sources are believable to me, in that I believe that they believe they have good information from primary sources that they found items indicating an interest in jihad. There's no way to know for sure at this point, and I treat it with some scepticism.

At this point, I think your last line is the best way to treat such rumors . I am aware of the Muslim connection, and think that should obviously looked at, but we may never know for sure what the true motive was -- religion, childhood trauma, video games, or something else.
