Default Independent or Community Troops in Utah County?

My husband and I had searched for a year before we found this wonderful Troop 51 in Utah County. We are LDS, and my husband is a big scouter. He loves the leadership opportunities the patrol method offers to boys. Unfortunately, the LDS troops do not follow the patrol method. (Plus, we were tired of the basketball... Sigh.) So, we went searching.

After running into wall after wall and being disappointed with the choices we finally find scout Troop 51 in Provo. It has been a marvelous experience for our boys.

Troop 51 is a very active troop that follows the patrol method for boy-led leadership. Our scouts come clear from Lehi down to Springville to meet in Provo. Families bring a mix of christian religions, mostly LDS. All are respectful of each other and each other's beliefs. We couldn't ask for a better experience for our boys.

Although we are an independent troop sponsored by the Community Church, many of our boys are LDS. Knowing that their boys cannot get the true patrol method of leadership within LDS troops, parents are glad to have this for their boys.

The LDS boys are dual-enrolled in both troops. This is the way we suggest it be done, so the boys can participate in both our troop and their LDS ward troop. All advancement goes through our troop.

We've been with the troop for several years, and our boys are thrilled with the camping and leadership opportunities. We are thrilled to see our boys be able to take advantage of the full Boy Scout program.

You can contact us through our troop website at MyTroop51.com if you're looking for an active independent or community troop in Utah County.

Just thought I'd let you know in case any of you find yourselves in the same boat.

Heidi
