help! buyin a home in salt lake area
hey, so a little info. I'm pretty young(23) i have just about 300,000 to spend on a home(it needs to be a home w/ a back yard, i am a big time animal lover and need to have dogs) and was curious if i could get some ideas from you all as to where i might want to look. i am in love with salt lake, i find it beautiful and I'm a huge nature guy.. coming from AZ i cant wait for the trees! i really cant wait to get out there. i enjoy going out, so i dont want to be out in the middle of nowhere. i train/fight mma, i will be training in sandy and would like to be semi close, i dont mind a bit of a drive. although not lds (as long as your nice i dont care at all what your beliefs are) i really love it near the temple, its beautiful over in that area... i dont know what else to add, this will be my first home so if you need more info just ask, thanks

Since you train in Sandy, I'd recommend renting for a while until you are more familiar with the SL valley. Perhaps someone in your trainings will advise you on what best suits your needs. I wouldn't advise you to plunk down $300k on a home and not like the area. That amount of money should get you a nice home with an ample backyard. Which temple are you referring to? I think there are 3 (plus one in planning stages) in the SL valley.

Look up utahrealestate.com, that'll help with your home search.
Sugarhouse is very liberal, you can't get as much for your money as other areas. The homes are older, lots aren't as big. I suggest you go further away from Downtown to get the most bang for your buck.
Sandy/Cottonwood Heights is a very nice area, very secure, close to a lot of nature spots.
I would recommend Draper/Herriman, it's about a 15 minute commute at most to Sandy(depending where you train). The houses out there are massive, pretty new, there's a lot of shopping centers/restaurants around. The area is mostly those "new money" I know a lot of young couples, singles that live in that area. If you head a little south, there is all sorts of camp spots and places to visit. Plus, it's only an 20-30 drive Downtown, where most of the nightlife is located, though there are clubs in Draper, Sandy also.
