I found a great website the other day and I keep going back to find things for my kids.
It's St. George For Kids - STG 4 Kids . It has stuff like activities and events for kids in the st. george area. There's stuff on hiking and biking trails, dance classes, martial arts, swimming classes, water parks, online games, etc. The guys who run it keep it updated pretty regularly and have responded to my questions quickly.

That's so funny, I just posted a reply in a different thread about www.stgeorge4kids.com. And you're right, it is an awesome site to keep up to date on cool stuff like events and activities for kids in the St. George, Ut area. Did you know they also have a cool forum

Utah has a comparatively low violent crime rate. I'm sure much less than Michigan has. I think winters in the Salt Lake City area are more mild than those in Michigan from what I know and have observed. Although, we brag about our skiing and having the "greatest snow on earth", so winters here can be very substantial.
If you live in St. George you get hot summers and mild winters. If you live in Northern Utah you get colder winters and milder summers. So, its a question of taking your pick.
I think its probably a difficult time right now to be getting a new job anywhere with an engineering degree. My hunch is very few jobs would be available right now in St. George. I wonder, though, if just a 100 miles away in Las Vegas if opportunities would be more substantial? Those are just some thoughts.

All of southern Utah is great, but we love Cedar City area, especially Enoch. It is only 40 minutes from St George and shopping, 15 minutes to Zion national park, 20 minutes to Brian head ski resort, 20 minutes to Cedar Breaks, pretty close to Lake Powell and Kanab, just beautiful, and much cooler than St George. When we get tired of snow, we visit St George. When we want to cool off in the summer, we just go up the mountain. They have the university in Cedar City which brings in a lot of culture and some diversity, and also the Utah Shakespearean festival. In Enoch, you can get a good home on 1/2 to a whole acre or more if you want, for under 200K. There are several in my neighborhood, in fact, and it is such a nice small town atmosphere. Very safe and friendly.
