Tip when buying a home in northern UT
Get a house with a driveway on the E or S side, your snow will melt MUCH faster than your neighbors' with W or N driveways! I got lucky on this one!!

Oh most definitely! Great tip. I had a home next to the Wasatch mountains in Layton on the west side of 89 and the driveway was on the north. I kicked myself everytime it snowed alot that I didn't buy on the other side of the street. Our snowed was there for weeks after the neighbors across the street had melted.

This is good advice for windows/patios/doors and anything else you want warmed in the winter. Keep in mind though...it'll warm just as much in the Summer as well.
Chickrae...I had the exact same experience living in Layton with a north facing driveway :-)

Yeah it is bad....did you live in East Layton area. Sometimes the East Layton area would get snow so much worse, then I would drive down to the mall and there was hardly any snow....weird...like two different cities and places

I actually lived between the mall and Hill AFB...a few blocks west of the high school. Yeah the mountains play lots of games. I work for the National Weather Service so I got to try to figure that out all the time :-)
The weather in NY is not much easier!

What a fun job. That's what my son always wanted to do. I bet NY weather would be really hard. Now I live in Oklahoma and the weather here is hard to figure out. Last Sunday it was 72 degrees and the next day 12 degrees.
I also lived down by the mall in another house off Gordon and Fairfield....noisy with the airplanes from HAFB

We have a house in Highland that faces east. However, since we bought in 2005 we have not lived in it so I can't comment on the snow thing. But I can say that facing east has good karma according to certain eastern religions or beliefs. Can someone enlightened me about this theory? I got this from my current tenants who are from India.

I have no idea...but when I was about 20, I worked for an Indian man, and both he and the Indian-business owner next door were having houses built...there were lots of discussions of this type that I heard. One thing in particular I rememeber them being very serious was the shape of their lot..."Tiger's Mouth" is what they wanted, narrow at the street, deep, wide at the far end of the lot.
