Question Fountain Green??

My cousin in So. California had to retire early due to health problems. He has decided to move to Fountain Green for economic reasons. I am planning to retire in three years and am also looking for an inexpensive place to lead a quite life of reading, fishing, and internet surfing. However, I remember going through Fountain Green and Moroni from Nephi to Ephraim when my son was enrolled at Snow College for one year and there were no grocery stores or a gas station in Fountain Green. That was 3 years ago. I also remember there a lot of turkey farms in that area. Has Fountain Green changed within the last 3 years? Is it really an economical place to live? Does it snow there? How far is the closest Wal-Mart, theaters, hospitals, etc. Will appreciate any info about Fountain Green, pro and con from people that really know.

Like you, I too have only traveled through fg. It is still a dot on the map surrounded by turkey farmers. There is a walmart in ephraim and there is a hospital in one of those communties along 89, I just can't remember which one, mt pleasant maybe? You would be just 15 minutes to nephi which is quickly becoming a distant suburb of Provo. In three years nephi might have most of the shopping you would need to do. There is a grocery there. You won't be doing any fishing in fg though. Mona reservoir is closest or else you would have to travel to the res. up above fairview. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The hospital you are thinking of is the Sanpete Valley Hospital. It is located at 1100 South Medical Drive in Mount Pleasant:

Hi rsr

In the last 3 years Ft Green is in much the same condition it has been in the previous 20 or so years. Nephi has not grown in the commercial side as fast as it has on the residential side, south Payson has continued to grow but is still a jont down the interstate looking on the Nephi side.

I currently live in Mt. Pleasant the little town on 89 that yes has the hospital, Nephi has a hospital as well and so does Gunnison in south Sanpete County, yes there are still more turkeys then there are people in the Ft. Green, Moroni part of the county but for a retired lifestyle of reading, fishing, and surfing it is one of the best places around. Yes it snows here in the winter I'm not certain about Ft. Green but Mt. Pleasant is at about 6,000 ft my husband was born in this county and we moved back about 8 years ago. There is a Wal-Mart in Ephraim on the north end of town. There is also a grocery store in Mt. Pleasant across from the hospital which is closer than Ephraim to Ft. Green. Then there are small gas stations with limited selection in Moroni.

When you refered to theaters are you referring to stage or screen? Snow college, Manti High, North Sanpete, and Gunnison High as well as an occasional Community group put on stage productions. There are 3 screens in two theaters in Ephraim, one screen in Gunnison, and the drive in is still open seasonally in Mt. Pleasant, I do not know if there are theaters in Nephi they have built an 8 screen stadium theater in Payson across from the Wal-Mart at the south exit I referred to before.

Ft. Green does have a State fish hatchery and there are many small streams and ponds that people still fish with permisson from the owners, my husband would know about more of those than me or I can hook you up with the retired guy up the street he and his buddies are out at least 5 if not 7 days a week fishing.

As far as internet it's available, reading use the internet to order or plan on a trip to a bookstore in the Provo area, I think Ft. Green has a library if not they do have the county Book Mobile which is the library on wheels I think they can do an inter-library loan just like the brick and morter.

Ft. Green and the canyon connecting it to Nephi had a big fire this summer and a lot of vegitation is gone so if we get a lot of snow this winter they may have some slide and mud problems next spring. Lamb Days is the major draw in Ft. Green and people come from all over to attend.

Now that I've continued on for way longer than probably necessary if you have any other questions drop me a line.
