As for meeting new people, you'll do just fine, I'm sure. Everyone I've run into in Logan is really friendly. (I haven't lived there myself, but I've got a lot of family and friends up there.)

Especially since you mentioned you're of the, shall we say, academic inclination, make sure you take advantage of all the great things Utah State has to offer. There's always some concert or lecture or exhibit open to the public going on.

Enjoy! Be sure to drive safely if you come down south -- Sardine Canyon can be tricky, especially in the winter.

So is the Sardine canyon road one of those narrow ones with switchbacks and few guardrails? I'm used to the flatlands, roads like that give me the willies.

No, its got a few curves, but in dry weather its easy and safe to maintain normal speeds. Unfortunately as I learned a year ago, it is also easy to get going a little too fast, and the cops know it. At least “nine over” is the lowest ticket you can get.

Sardine's not bad most of the time, but it gets slick in winter, like any mountain canyon. But no, it's not one of those hair-raising mountain passes. Those give me the willies too, and I've driven a lot of them.

My wife and I are heading to Utah in September to vacation, and I'm planning on spending some time up around the Logan/Cache Valley area because I visited there years ago and was so impressed I made up my mind to see it again if I returned to Utah.
I'm told that the best time for "leaf peeking" is late Sept. and that the Logan river thru Logan Canyon has excellent trout fishing as does the Blacksmith Fork River east of Hyrum ?
Hope you don't mind me tagging along, as I realize this thread is for those looking for info about the area for relocaton. Just saw the active thread about Logan and thought I'd dart in for some info.

Couldn't agree more, there is a whole other world out there in all those big urban areas where the traffic is horrendous and they are shooting and killing each other every day of the week. No you're right, its not dull out there at
all !

Perfect example of what I'm talking about
you assume that everywhere else is hell.(oh wait LDS don't believe in Hell)
Try the rest of the world some time its not
as bad as church leaders and neighbors may lead you
to believe.

Horrendous traffic? have you driven in Logan lately.
I just spent the better part of the Forth of July week
on the east coast, from DC to Atlanta. And honestly
it was a relief to drive in those areas(BTW I drive professionally)
I have never seen a larger group of oblivious drivers ANYWHERE
I can say that with confidence having driven in all but 6 states of the union.

Uh, on what grounds do you bring the religious component into this? There is no mention of religion in the post that apparently offended you. Nunusguy states he is coming to Logan for a vacation, so obviously he is not local. Do you know he is LDS? I sure don’t.

My apologies for my religious comment. It wasn't directed at Nunusguy.

As I said, the area is beautiful, and full of wonderful natural beauty.
Everything else is dull.
