Horrendous traffic? have you driven in Logan lately.
I just spent the better part of the Forth of July week
on the east coast, from DC to Atlanta. And honestly
it was a relief to drive in those areas(BTW I drive professionally)
I have never seen a larger group of oblivious drivers ANYWHERE
I can say that with confidence having driven in all but 6 states of the union.

For the record I'm not LDS, but to your comments about traffic "from DC to Atlanta", I've vistied DC but not driven in their traffic so won't comment on what I've heard about it, but suffice it to say its not positive.
But I lived and worked in ATL for a year in the 90s and enjoyed many things about the area. Wonderful people. Had an apartment in the burb of Fayetville and commuted to work at Hartsfield. But ATL traffic was defintely "HORRENDOUS". There is a lot of it and they all seem to drive as if they were competing on a NASCAR raceday. And the crime. You better keep your head on a swivel, even when you are traveling thru a local that's perceived to be good area.

I worked from 2000 to 2005 in the DC area. I battled the beltway every day. People in Utah have no idea how bad traffic can be. It is getting bad here in some spots, especially on I-15 north out of Salt Lake. But it doesn't even compare. There, all alternates and surface streets are totally clogged. That's not the case in Salt Lake City.

My wife and I are really looking forward to our return trip to Utah in September. Already got our plane tickets and hotel reservations, atleast for the first 3 nights. Hotels/motels are already booking-up in SLC !
But you mention I-15, and we were talking about what bad shape the hiways out there were in when we last visited, which was 1997. Of course back then much hiway construction was already in progress to improve the infrastructure for the upcoming Winter Olympics SLC had secured. We expect to see some big improvements from those torn-up roads from way back in '97.
But sounds like you're saying the main choke point on I-15 is above SLC on the way to Logan ?

Depends on your time of day..
I-15N runs fine Northbound of SLC if your traveling
from 8am-3pm ish(times may vary) 5pm rush hour
everyone is trying to get home, If you must travel at this time,
just stop and get dinner somewhere...
And since you will probably come in from the airport, you just hop
on I-215(beltway) North...
Should take about 1hr20minutes in good traffic... who knows how long
during rush hour
They are still working on the highway up near Ogden/Layton... but it
flows pretty well...

Avoid I-15 Northbound between downtown Salt Lake and Ogden between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Depending on when your plane comes in, plan something for downtown SLC if you would have to be driving at those times. Otherwise you will spend nearly as much time just sitting in traffic. Without traffic you can make it to Logan from SLC in about 90 minutes.

As I said in an earlier post. I just arrived in Logan yesterday. The traffic through the Odgen area was stop and go for about 40 minutes. They either closed down a lane for no reason at all, or just forgot to pick up the cones. I got to experience Sardine canyon for the first time in the rain, while towing a 2000 lb loaded u-haul trailer w/o trailer brakes, with a Volvo! It was all good. I've been to most areas in Utah in the past two months (I flew here first), and I personally wanted an area that is green. Logan seemed like the most logical place to be.
My first impressions of Logan are favorable of course. The politeness of the people impress me the most. I will never be LDS, but I appreciate the beauty and vibe of a city, that they had a big hand in creating.

To Utah from Idaho

Up here in Idaho this winter, we have had more rain than snow, and way too many gray days (like today, dark, low clouds and rain mixed with snow). So, we are looking for a place with a bit more sunshine in the winter! Maybe Logan will be that place. It sounds good so far.

Hi gbail,
If you don't mind me asking what town are you in in Northern Idaho?
I myself just left Coeur d'Alene because of the lack of sun. I found the weather to be so depressing and I am now looking for the next town similar to it's size with more sun. Do you know anyone that has moved to Logan?
And if you know of any other areas that fit your requirement I would love to know being as though it looks like we are looking for a similar location.
Thanks!
