Living in UTAH now!!
Just wanted to let you all know my family & I did make it here. We've been here for a little over a week & love it here! It's so beautiful!!! And thankfully people have been very friendly.
Just got our new internet installed late today. Didn't want anyone thinking I was ignoring them. It was so hectic the week before moving, that I was looking forward to finally getting here. All our stuff is hopefully getting here w/the movers in the next couple days. Yeah!! Feel like we've been camping out at our new house. haha. But it's been fun.
I signed up my kids for some rec. activities that start up in a week or so, so hoping they enjoy that. I believe in jumping right in to get us used to the new area. So, I was very happy to find things starting up real soon. I think I've got stuff figured out for every season. There's just so many fun choices.
Well, I'll have a lot more to say later. But just got on for a little bit to tell you we finally made it here. Very glad to be here.

Hi Mountainfaith,
Welcome to Utah!! I'm glad to hear you like it and it's nice to see that you're getting "into things" right away. I admire your positive attitude.

Welcome neighbor!!!! I made you a cyber plate of cookies (you just have to imagine how good they would taste)
I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy the weather, in between unpacking boxes and getting settled.

Welcome to Utah!! This is a beautiful state, with lots for us "newcomers" to enjoy!!! Once you get the "grid" figured out, getting from place to place is very easy, and you won't get lost! Just don't do what I do...when talking of a street....and the street is 10600....it's said as 106th....when I say ten-six hundred...people laugh and ask if I'm new in town.......LOL.
I hope you settle in quickly and easily...and if you have a lot of boxes to get rid of, the local grocery stores will let you throw them away in their bid dumpsters.

Glad the move worked out well. You definitely picked a nice time to move here -- in the 60s all week.

Yes! That is the best advice ever! I'm still new to Utah myself. Its never 1300 E, its 13th E and whatnot. People looked at me like I was asking for directions to the moon when I first got here. I'm loving the grid system though. I rarely need to mapquest where I'm going anymore. I just hop in my car and go!
Welcome to Utah!!!

Roads
Well, the funny thing about the grid system is that with each bordering city having its own grid system, I quickly found out that the roads CHANGE numbers as soon as you cross the city lines. So, you could be going West on 2000, but in seconds the road name you're on is now 1700 instead, and 2000 in the new city is now a different north-south road you're crossing.
So, it would be cool if they gave a newcomer's packet with 0,0 points for each city in the county, so you knew where that started.
Hey, you said 1300 would be 13th. Thanks for the tip. I'll let hubby know. But if you're on like a number like 2050 wouldn't you just say 20 50? That's what I've been doing so far.
Anyway, like I just said in another thread, it would be really hard to truly get lost here, cuz it's such a very compact area between the Great Salt Lake on the west and the massive Wasatch Mountain wall on the east. If you went a little too far, you'd either be swimming or driving into the mountain wall. So, as long as you know the Wasatch Mountains are on the EAST, that's the best thing to keep you knowing which way to go.
I just jumped right in and started driving right away. I don't worry about possibly getting lost. I just memorized the main roads right away, so that helped a lot. And each time I drive I feel more at home and confident about the area where I'm going. I really love the area! Years ago I lived in a very large metro area, so that helped make this an easy place to drive around. Amen to that! And the mountains and Great Salt Lake give the drive spectacular views along the way.

Thanks...
...for your nice 'welcome home' messages here. As a family, we definitely are falling in love with Utah. Just can't wait til we get our house unpacked, so we can go out and enjoy it more.
We did take our kiddies to an aquatic center and what a blast they had!! My hubby & I had fun just watching them. Once I can figure out what box my swimsuit is in, I'll get to join them. It might be faster to just go out and buy a new one w/all the boxes to look thru. haha.
