That's good to hear, DC.

And Lupulin, I'm gonna throw in The Canyons. I've never been, but from looking at their trail map and hearing from others, it's pretty much ALL blues and blacks! Plus it is one of the largest ski areas in the country, too. But it's expensive.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Deer Valley. It's an intermediate skier's dream. The slopes are fantastically groomed and there is more challenging terrain if you get frisky, that will be virtually empty.

Thanks again everyone for the advice.

Went to Solitude on 1/24/09 and Snowbasin on 1/25/09. Had a great time at both places ... truckloads of new snow.

Both resorts were great ...
- Solitude was really close to SLC and Snowbasin was really close to Ogden.
- Both had free, easy, close parking.
- I liked the two brand-new high-speed quads at Solitude.
- Neither resort had lift lines.
- Both places had some great runs, longer than I expected. Snowbasin was huge with plenty of terrain to explore; Solitude felt much larger than its 1,200 acres.

It snowed a ton over the weekend. (Just saw on the news this morning that Alta got 35 inches of new snow!). Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any views as the mountains were socked in with clouds, fog and snow both days. Temps were kind of high as well, so the snow melted when it hit my clothes and goggles. Made me soaked and it was hard to see through the goggles (they didn't fog up, they just kept getting smeared, so I had to wipe them off constantly).

The fresh powder was pretty heavy, too, which wore me out fast. I was spent and soaked to the core after only 4 hours each day.

I could be wrong, but I don't think these conditions are normal for Utah. In the last seven years I've only experienced one weekend like this in Colorado. When I saw on the news that it rained in Aspen this weekend, I imagine some Colorado resorts experienced the same abnormalities.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again and follow up ...

The heavy snow is NOT normal! But we're just so happy to have some "fresh" snow, it's been awhile! :-)

After hearing you describe your skiing ability, I'd say probably either Alta or Snowbird. Snowbasin up near Ogden would be good though too.
