It took us forever to get the water out of there, dry the carpet and rent fans. We had just finished our basement about 6 months prior and I thought the same thing.........why did we put carpet.
Now I live where you can't have basements and we get water in our "fraidy hole" instead. I just deal with tornados now...ha ha. and a SERIOUS ice storm today in Tulsa, OK
At least you got a cute little dog, and I love that name slurpee!

i've always wanted to see a tornado, but would never want to clean up after one.
window wells are another of my projects: whoever built this house didn't dig the wells down past the windows, or fill it with rocks or anything. they just left the packed dirt right at the level of the wells, so they take on a lot of water. now i have to go dig them out this spring.
sigh. project house. we knew it going in to it though, so i can't complain to anyone but myself.
aaron out.

I haven't actually been through a tornado yet....only been here 1 1/2 years, however we have been in the fraidy hole when the tornado siren goes off...really scary for a Utahn.
Is the home older. I used to work with the building inspectors for the city and they are suppose to inspect those carefully and definitely have gravel or rocks in there.

We got caught in an F3 in Davenport, IA this past June while in transit for our vacation. Our poor 12 year old daughter was scared of them before, but never worried. This IS Utah after all. After we went through that, for weeks after we got home, if the winds picked up she was terrified!!

My neighbor's behind me too. Their basement flooded (from the front of the house), spent the summer tearing up carpet and then finished a room (in the back) for their daughter.
Well, all this rain, and the back of their basement flooded. I got up before 8am Sun, and saw him down in his window well bailing it out.
BTW, I love the name Slurpee (though it should be a drooly dog!)
And, if you haven't, go look at my new doggie's pic! in the chatting in UT sticky thread!

Yes for sure, and get in on the chatting going on. We are trying to "drumb up business" in that so we can talk about what we want.

i'll check out the chatting then. sounds interesting, especially if you guys are posting pics of pets and stuff.
i used to go to my grandpa's house in iowa for the summers, and have spent a few nights in the crawlspace as the tornado sirens wailed–just never actually had them come closer than a mile.
the previous owners of our house were not very keen on building code, paying professionals, or anthing else. they even built a concrete pond in the front yard, right up against the foundation. so now we are repairing water-damaged walls and stuff.

Wish I knew how to post pictures. Someone it explained it to me on here. I guess I need to just take the time to learn how to do it.
I haven't been in an actual tornado either........nor do I want to.
I also want to know how to add comments to peoples quotes (in between) quotes.
Sometimes people do additions and make changes on their home without getting a building permit...therefore no inspections. So sometimes you live in a home awhile before you see that the previous owner really messed up somet things.

As far as multiple quotes, I think you use that button next to the "Quote" button. The one that looks like quotation marks and the plus sign. I've never used it but I think that's how it's done.
