osugirl is moving north and rather than start a new thread she probably just asked the question in this thread which deals with Utah County. Utah County is definitely different from Davis County or Salt Lake County that is for sure! I wouldn't live in Utah county..........and I am mormon!

I am LDS. I have lived in Salt Lake and Cache counties and went to BYU so lived in Utah County for a year. I have two children at BYU right now. I have lived in MN for the past 10 years. I am a minority here. I know what it feels like to be excluded. It hurts. But I am the only person who can allow me to feel hurt. No one else can make me feel that way. It doesn't help me to keep looking for more reasons to feel hurt, to find more people who agree with me, to find more negative things about the area I live in. THAT is not going to bring me any more happiness. I have to decide I am going to be happy regardless of what my neighbors think or believe or how they act or whether or not they talk to me. In fact I know for a fact that I will be happier if I go up to people, smile, ask them about themselves, try to generate some real interest in them rather than assuming everyone hates me. I have visited many other boards from other states and this problem of folks not liking or understanding the people in their new location isn't unique to Utah. People here in MN talk funny. And new move ins talk about how everyone acts nice but then they stab you in the back (figuratively) when you turn around. It's all fake nice. In NY they don't pretend- they just stab you in the chest (figuratively) right off the bat. In Boise someone complained about feeling excluded because they didn't have a boat or some such thing.
The world does not revolve around me.
I'm really tired of this and won't be posting on this subject anymore. Didn't someone mention a dead horse a few pages back?
Good luck in finding happiness wherever you are.

Has nothing to do with being mormon or not. I just would never care to live there. I went to alot of singles activities down there after my divorce and just preferred hanging around the people in the Salt Lake area. Yes I am mormon.

Kind of along the same lines as the vinyl I have up in my house. "Happiness depends upon ourselves."

I hear ya! Had kids at BYU also, so was in Utah County alot.
I am going through what you are......living in the bible belt and being LDS is not the greatest experience, but I am friendly to everyone and respect the baptists beliefs here.
I would never think of going to an Oklahoma thread and saying "I just moved to Oklahoma, what about the baptists. How will I be treated etc"
So over this.........How many threads are there about this moving to Utah/mormon thing. There has got to be hundreds. I would say if people don't like it move. Quit complaining...life is too short.
