If you work in SL, why would you choose to move way down there? Even Sandy would be closer and a little more diverse. Living "in the city" is not like being in a city. I live in E Millcreeek - close to the city but not "city like", and MUCH more diverse than where you are. Sugarhouse area, just north of where I am, is very nice and very diverse. You would be so much happier. As soon as you can swing, I'd move North.

Yes we are looking, We didn't really know or understand the area when we signed our lease here. My boyfriend was here without me so I went on the internet looking for a house without much knowledge of how things really were. He was really here to find us a house and ended up working most of the time. I think his thought with Lehi, since I didn't have a job yet was that I could definately find one anywhere between Provo and Salt Lake LOL. Anyway we're looking! I like Millcreek and Sugarhouse very cool places. My boyfriend is fighting the move north just because he likes feeling a little more removed like we are here from a "city" atmosphere I guess. I don't know.

Sugarhouse is fun and E Millcreek puts you right near that canyon. Both winners in my book.
I'm up for adventure, though. Alpine adventure. As in moving to Alpine.
My husband and I both really like to climb and to hike. So I think the nature thing will probably trump all. We just love the natural beauty of Utah.

Oh my gosh! "In the city" definitely doesn't have to be your only option if you move to "Salt Lake." To begin with, to anybody who has ever lived in a "real" city, Salt Lake City hardly qualifies. Secondly, there are many, many, many areas within 20 minutes or so of downtown Salt Lake where you could live and never feel as if you were "in the city." You really do need to work on getting out of Utah County. I'm sure it's a nice place for some people to live, but I'm a Mormon and I would absolutely go crazy living in Utah County.

I know there are definately places in Salt Lake that don't really qualify as real city living, it's just convincing my boyfriend of that. He's too busy working to really get out too much. But we took a nice drive tonight around Sugarhouse and East Millcreek and he realized what cool places they were! The only thing I've had a problem with in Utah county is meeting people. Everyone was definately nice at first and it's not like they are mean now just some of them don't even bother waving or anything but some of them do. Most of the time when I go shopping and stuff I go into Draper and Sandy anyway, because I'm pretty close to the border between Utah and Salt Lake county. Anyway, we're looking around at places. We have a dog so it's harder to find a rental that we like that allows dogs. Plus, she is a yellow lab so anyone who has seen Marley and Me probably won't want to rent to us! LOL

Well, I haven't posted for awhile...mostly because I was one of those attacked for not loving it here and agreeing with everybody else. It is interesting that every time someone mentions that their neighbors are not friendly or that their family feels shunned, the first reaction is "well, what are you doing wrong?". Could it be that they are indeed being shunned? My advice is to get out of Lehi as soon as you can. One reason I haven't felt the need to post is that we moved from Lehi to Draper. If you live on Traverse Mountain, you have my sympathy. What a difference a few miles make. Now we actually have neighbors who talk to us and who wave back to us. It is like night and day. Look into Draper, West Jordan, or Sandy...really nice areas to live. The commute to downtown SLC is usually 20-30 minutes and there is a lot of shopping, restaurants, etc., as you probably know.

Glad to hear you moved into Salt Lake County. It's unfortunate that it happens but it proves the general consensus here that Utah County is terrible for newcomers or non-LDS or what have you (granted though, there are a few exceptions).

Thanks for your post. My boyfriend is attached to the house we are in right now because we have been here for almost a year but I was telling him tonight just if we moved a few minutes away to Draper everything would be better! We even go to Draper to shop! Things here do not affect him as much as me because of his huge work load so we he finally has time off we head out to go check out sights we haven't seen or we go up to salt lake. I just need to convince him that it would be better in the long run, he has been looking with me on the internet for houses for rent and sale and doesn't want to live too close to salt lake city but seems ok with my thought of Draper, West Jordan or Sandy. Traverse Mountain is on the other side of I-15 from me. I can see Cabela's from my development but I'm on the other side of the highway. My boyfriend wants to stay here because it's "safe" but already he's truck and my car have been broken into. I can't understand why it seems we live in a neighborhood where that wouldn't happen. Anyway still looking to feel happy here. I've met many wonderful people through my work in Salt Lake and when we have gone out in Salt Lake, though we haven't gone out very often been treated with so must kindness in respect. This state is a beautiful state and I know I need to make it home for at least a few more years if not indefinately! Love my job but where i live stinks. anyway rambling on a message board that's great! Thanks!

What I can't believe is people that are LDS that tell me I need to move out of Utah county and that they wouldn't even live there. Why do they feel like that? That's terrible to feel like people just can't get along!
