Gardening is a huge thing in Utah! It is plenty warm enough for a long growing season. You have your cool weather fruits and veggies and then your summer fruits and veggies.

I have looked at this issue from both sides (I have lived it and continue to live it every day for the last eight months going into the ninth) and I keep coming back to the same conclusion especially when I have two neighbors who are LDS and not from here telling me that the Mormons in this neighborhood do not accept outsiders, even them...You can keep trying to pick a fight with me but I will not engage, your opinion is directly related to your experiences and I am glad that you have had wonderful experiences in Utah...my opinion is directly related to my experiences and no matter how hard you try you cannot change what has already happened, my perception of what has happened or my kids perception of how they have been treated by our Mormon neighbors. What you can do is allow people to speak freely about their experiences so that some open dialogue might open some eyes and maybe this exclusionary behavior (whether intentional or not) can be stopped and tolerance, kindness and consideration can be learned.

i think that you are the only one reading anger into kaytidid's responses. if others are thinking along those same lines, they're welcome to raise their hand and speak up obviously. i think that you are just misunderstanding her reactions, or purposefully exaggerating what they mean. either way, it is not conducive to cooperative conversation; it keeps coming off as condescending or passive-aggressive.
obviously this is my own perspective though, and that might not be your intent. but coupled with your admission of accepting and operating on generalizations, it might very well fit.

I hold a real estate license here in OKC, so I'm all about the benefits of home ownership, but since I have no clue what I'm getting into and since it seems that the right area is key there, I'm leaning towards renting for awhile before I buy. I did look at Real Estate in Layton and noticed it was very reasonably priced and that the price per square foot was similar to where I'm from.

Just realized you are moving from Oklahoma....go OSU. I live in the Tulsa area. I did notice prices of homes are wayyyyyy cheap here. But you would absolutely love Layton. I miss it.

This is how I would compare it. You are from the bible belt......lots of baptists. If a mormon moved to the bible belt, they would feel the same as a baptist moving to Utah where there are lots of mormons. If that makes sense. Only because it happened to me!

Just so you know, this whole thread does not apply to the area you're moving, north of Salt Lake City. Rather, it's about the area south of Salt Lake County, into Provo.
