Southern Utah/Northern AZ Highway Question
Making a move soon, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Hwy 89A thru Jacob Lake, AZ, or Hwy 89 via Page/Kanab is the best route to take with a 16' truck pulling a vehicle. I've been on 89, but never 89A, so I was hoping for some input from anyone familiar with these highways. Thanks

You should be able to make either way, depending on the time of year you are traveling. Jacobs Lake has a fairly high elevation and the roads have been known to have snow until mid April to May.

Thanks for the info. Not too worried about snow, I am leaving from Flagstaff. I was more concerned about services available and road quality I suppose I appreciate your input

If time is an issue, go with 89. 89A, while very beatiful, has a strech of really windy parts, though not really swichbacks, and the speed limit is 35 thru that section. they are both about the same distance, but it usually takes almost an hour longer to go 89A.

Honestly....having traveled that road (89A) many times there is NO way if I were driving ANYTHING other than a car I would go that direction on 89A instead of 89. There are indeed plenty of switchbacks and it's just not as friendly a road for something with just 4 wheels IMHO. Like I said, been there done that many times and that's my take on it.

Definitely go through Page to Kanab. No big hills, not very curvy. Nice surfaced road. Have driven a uhaul on that route and was grateful not to be going over the mountain to Jacobs Lake. It is also a scenic drive with less stress.
