Moving to Pleasant Grove/Lindon?
My husband has a job offer in Orem (at UVU) so we are considering moving to Utah this summer. We have 2 daughters (8 and 11) who are involved in a lot of activities so I am looking for a place that would have lots of things for kids to do, if possible without having to spend hours in the car driving them around. We are looking into the towns of Lindon or Pleasant Grove (but might also consider living in Orem since this is where his job will be). What do you think of those towns? FIY we are not LDS and I keep reading not to live in Utah county but living in Salt Lake is just too long a commute for us.

You could live in one of the southern suburbs of Salt Lake City (Draper, Sandy, Herriman, Riverton, etc) and using say Draper, you'd have a 35-minute commute on your hands, which I'm not sure is good or bad for you. Whatever you do, try not moving into Utah County because you don't want to play your luck and see if you're living in a friendly, open neighborhood - the odds for finding such a place are much, much higher in Salt Lake County and north than they are in Utah County (just based on reading all of these experiences posted on this forum).

35 minutes commute would be too long for us. We live in a small town right now, it takes him less than 5 minutes to get to work. If it was up to him, we would just find the house closest to the university LOL.
We know we will be a minority in Utah county, we will just have to make it work.

It can be done. Contrary to some beliefs, I am sure that there are some LDS living in Utah County that are very happy and content.

I assume you mean non-LDS? But yes, I'm sure there are some non-Mormons down there. It's just less likely down there than up here in Salt Lake.

My family and I live in Pleasant Grove. I have two kids, a daughter (8) and son (5). We are not LDS and it hasn't been an issue. We are open and honest with our neighbors, and they have been with us. Occasionally, we have to turn away missionaries or a new bishop, but it's not a big deal.
Last year, when my daughter and all her classmates were turning 8 (and being baptized) she got some comments at school about us not being Mormon. We coached her on how to handle that and it was never a problem.
Our only frustration when we first moved to Utah County was trying to find a place to eat out on Sunday that's not a chain (McDonalds, Chilis, Applebee's). A large number of retail store locations (clothing, bike shops, housewares) are closed as well, but you just learn to adapt. It's kind of nice actually.

Thank you for your post. Although my family and I are also not LDS, nor do we live in Utah County, your post was a breath of fresh air.

That was exactly what I was going to say. I'm glad to see we have at least one person who hasn't found Utah County hell.
