Default Anyone living in Park City?

We're thinking of moving there in a couple of months. I have a 15 year old and an 18 year old. Will there be things for them to do? Is it safe?

Hi trsgrv,

Geez it seems for some reason you're kinda gettin' the cold shoulder on your what I think is a perfectly legitimate question!
I totally agree with you about illegals and the increase of crime. Unfortunately that could very likely be one of the reasons crime has increased in PC. You're never gonna find anywhere crime-less. IMO PC is a very safe place and I would not be concerned at all. It is also a fairly affluent area in most parts which I think says a lot but I won't go there because I'd probably be called prejudiced.
PC is a very beautiful area with a ton of fun outdoorsy things to do; great place to raise kids.

Your kids would have very good schools, endless outdoor activities, world-class skiing in their backyard, and also plenty of cultural activities in both Park City and nearby Salt Lake City. Park City is very safe in general. It's also very expensive, but if you have the funds, it's a great area to live in. It's one of the most liberal/diverse areas in Utah, which might be bad or good, depending on your perspective. ;-)

Greetings from PC!

Living in PC is a fabulous life~after all if you choose to live here, you are
living in a resort. Hopefully, you and your family enjoy the outdoors and
sports activities. It is also a dog's paradise if you have a pet.

Public schools are mediocre, although many rave about them. The school district is experiencing growing pains from the increase in population and working hard to overcome some obstacles.

PC is a safe community but a tourist community during season. Depending
where you live, you will have to get used to the increase in traffic. There
are options as far as bedroom communities close to the interstate if you
need to commute to SLC that can ease the time on the road. Again, PC
is experiencing rapid growning pains and is dealing with expansion of infrastructure.

All in all it is total stress free living. In 5 minutes you can be on a lift
and letting the rest of the world go by for a few hours. Sheer heaven!

Default wondering about moving to park city, utah?

hi-
we have two boys (8 & 5) and are considering moving to PC....did you move? do you like it? we are not mormon, and am wondering if that would be ok? we are very pro mormon, but am wondering if kids would be okay or feel left out? we live in newport beach, ca, so a very different place and climate...we could take all our beach sports to the slopes, i guess!
what are the best neighborhoods for families and the best elementary school. my husband would be working in park city, so commute not an issue....
thanks to everyone/anyone who can help out!

OK, so I do not live in Utah, so take this with that info in mind. I posted asking about PC on here as well, as we are considering it (as well as SLC and parts of CO). I also started asking friends of mine if they knew anyone in PC and turns out a surprising number knew people who currently live there. I have to tell you that the feedback was 100% unanimous that it is a fabulous place to live and raise kids if you are outdoorsy.

As background, I'm liberal, agnostic, have kids, and my friends knew that when telling me their feelings about how I'd like it. The *only* reason the decision is not already made about moving there is that I am rather a cold weather wimp. I love skiing in winter but I want a HOT summer, and from all sources I realize summers are "wonderfully cool" which is an oxymoron to me

So...it is still very much a possibility for us but based on hearsay (so take it with a grain of salt) it is a very progressive area and has very little LDS influence and is a fabulous place to raise kids.

Okay, I feel I need to comment on lots of this. I have been in Park City for 9 years now and SLC before that for 3 years. There are major problems going on in PC.... Great place to raise kids??? Really??? We have one of the biggest heroin among youngster problems in the country! Forget kids smoking pot during high school, try shooting up in the locker rooms. Or, maybe, check out how many middle schoolers get busted with ounces of pot each year. I never knew anyone who killed themselves or had drug problems until I moved here, but I have experienced friends dying over main lining speedballs, suicide while on drugs, and over doses. But yea, great place for wise some kids. Remember in high school when a kids parents were out of town so there was a party? How about high school kids having there own condos to party in 24/7! (another first until I moved to PC). The skiing is great though, but the resorts are so money hungry that they could care less about the locals and you need to expect to pay $1,400 for a seasons pass to 1 mtn. The another $500 pass for the summer activities. Crime is what ever, not bad not good. As far as being "liberal" , ummmm NO! This is Utah, the LDS go against the constitution to run things here their way. News and religion are not supposed to be 1 in the same! Going to college here was great! Every class the prof. would chat with the other mormons about where/ how their missions went, not mormon = odd 1 out. Like to drink = odd one out. Most people here also want to be a celebrity and/or are the fakest people you will ever meet. Progressive area??? hahaha the real locals would laugh in your face at that.

Bottom line is, Park City used to be great. But now it is just some suburb of Salt Lake Moderator cut: rude and filled with Moderator cut: inappropriate language that think they are in control of the town because they either A. Ski Race or are involved w/ the olympics or B. They are mormon or C. They make 30k a year and are 30y old so they think they are the best of the best. Also, I have never lived anywhere that is so clicky. But, again, yea great place to raise a family. You will here horror stories from parents of families that moved here and can't believe how they're children aren't invited in birthday parties or sleep over because your kids isn't mormon. Oh and your not mormon so no mormon kid will be allowed to come to your house to play with your children.... you might have a glass of wine out.....
