Relocating from AZ to Helper or Price..any suggestions?
Hello,
My husband is looking at getting a job in social work in Helper, UT. We currently live in a small border town in AZ and we were born and raised in this town. This will be our first move and we are nervous! We presently have seven children. We homeschool. We would like a little bit of land to have some chickens and maybe a cow. Our children are involved in our local sports teams and 4-H. Helper actually looks like our neighboring town of Bisbee, which was also a mining town. We are use to living in the dessert and from what research I have done, Helper seems to be in the dessert. My husband wouldn't mind a short commute if it means we can move into some green areas.
Is there someone who can steer us in the right direction?
Blessings,
Mamalove2

I grew up in Helper and absolutely love it still. There should be plenty of Homes for sale that would meet your needs throughout Carbon County. But if you are really looking for the small town atmosphere, keep your eyes on Helper, Spring Glen, or Carbonville. Price is great too, but harder to find the ground you are looking for without paying a lot for it.

Helper isn't really in the desert. It's right before you go up into the pass to get to Salt Lake, so it's next to the mountains. I would agree that you'll find more land there than in Price. I've lived in Price about a year and a half, but I've only been to Helper about 5 times. They have a really nice pool for the kids!

Thank you, TheOn3 and momof2penguins for your helpful advice. I am glad to know that Helper isn't in the desert. I went to school in Cedar City, UT and I suppose I was comparing it to the green that is around Cedar. We have actually been online looking at houses. I was shocked to see 35,000 homes along with 300,000 homes! I just don't know what to expect. As far as keeping our children busy with sports and 4-H, is Price going to be it?
Thanks a lot!

I'm not sure about that, since we live in Price. It is only about 7 miles away, so if you did have to do that it wouldn't be too bad of a drive.

My parents are both from Helper. I've spent a lot of time there growing up and still have relatives there. Several live up Spring Canyon in Helper.
I would definitely consider Helper desert like. The mountains don't make it non-desert like. They're beige just like most of the area.
Helper doesn't have a high school. The College of Eastern Utah is in Price. Most of your shopping would most likely be in Price. The closest large shopping mall is in Provo. Price has a Wal-Mart and a K-Mart....at least I think the K-Mart is still open. There are two major chain grocery stores (Albertson's & Smith's) there too. Helper has a few small markets, a post office, a liquor store, gas stations, and banks. There's also a cute Christmas light parade every December - -usually the first weekend in December. This is the only restaurant I know of in Helper. There are probably more but this is the only one I've eaten at. Price has several restaurants and many fast food choices.
I think my dad and I drove through Bisbee on our trip to Tombstone.
