If you are non-LDS, I'd give serious thought to living in south Salt Lake County (Draper, Herriman) and having your husband commute to work in Orem. Its probably about a 20-25 mile commute each direction. The area is conservative even by Utah standards.

On the bright side, the canyons east of Orem (Provo Canyon) offer some recreational opportunities. If you like football, you are close to BYU and can go see their football games.

The county has grown very rapidly and you would have access to virtually every chain store, mall, and chain restaurant that I can imagine.

Thank you! Its good to know there are safe areas. I grew around the UNM area and its a very interesting area. I am pretty excited about going up to Utah. It will be a nice change from here.
Do you like it better then Albuquerque? Just curious. What part of town are you from?

We will have to look into it. We are a little afraid of the SLC area. It seems like a very busy big city.

Salt Lake isn't very busy. As a matter of fact, many people complain about how NOT busy it is. Especially in the Draper area...very surburban.

Thats good to know! We want to go somewhere a tad smaller and not like here. There is a lot of crime here, we saw there are a good amount of assault in SLC. Which is better then hearing who died today, like here. SLC might be where we have to go for a little while, since the commute from Orem will be too long for us.
My husband works for RXAmerica and they have a site in SLC but his actual company is in Orem. (weird I know). We may end up there. What area's around SLC are good? Are there areas around Orem and Provo? We have been a little unsure of how the towns and suburbs work.
I have gone up to SLC and Provo a few times, but it looks different being there then on google satellite.

Default Orem

Orem is very Mormon. It's boring.

I'm from Orem and my sister has lived in NE Albq for 29 years. She and her family love Albuquerque. I wouldn't want to live in Orem again. I couldn't tolerate the abundance of narrow minds. Forty miles north and it's MUCH better. Orem is dry like ABQ, but the sun isn't as intense. I find ABQ to be quite beige. You'll find more grass in Orem. And it's much nicer looking than the UNM area of ABQ.

Good luck with your move. I hope you all enjoy it here.

Just wanted to throw in my opinion. My wife and I moved to Orem almost a year ago from South Louisiana. She was born and raised in Utah, I am from Louisiana though. Oh yeah, she is LDS and I am Southern Baptist, but we have no problems, even my In-Laws love me . Anyway, I get along great here in Orem with everyone I meet. I work in SLC, so the 80 mile round trip each day can hurt gas wise, but I come from outside sales, so I love to drive. I am very conservative, in fact about as close as a Southern Baptist Boy can get to being LDS without being LDS, and I was shocked at how liberal Orem was. We currently live in an apartment, and I see beer cans around, have to put up with loud parties (Dang College Students, No Offense ) Still it is better than where I come from, where it is not a gathering, until someone brings beer, and you give a sip to your kids.

ANYWAY, the MAIN point of this post was to let you know that my daughter (5 year old) goes to a wonderful daycare, which we too were worried about finding a good one at first, but have been VERY happy with it. If you would like, I can send you a PM with contact information. The summer is a good time to get a new child in, as many kids drop off the role for the summer.

Thank you! I can't believe how many people on here have ties to Albuquerque. I wonder if I have ever passed your sister! I live in the NE heights now. I grew up in the SE heights though.
Are a lot of people narrow minded? I have heard they are very conservative. One issue we are a little worried about it that my husband has half a sleeve done, which isn't visible unless he is without a shirt.Sometimes you can see a little of the work sticking out of his shirt but not normally. He is worried about how people will treat us for it. Would this fall into the narrow minded peoples talk?

Its good to hear some mix of people there. It does sound pretty good. I hear a lot of mixed reviews. My best friend lived in Provo for a while and she said she would go back to Utah county if she does go back.
I do want to find a good daycare. I am very weary of childcare. Thank you so much for your response!
