Actually, my comment was directed to the quote from Easternerdc about a woman that was upset that her children would see the cherries and the blender, not to Easternerdc herself.

Eager for moving advice
Hello. I live in Washington state, and I'm very eager to leave. I really need help figuring out where to live. I would love feedback from people who live in Utah and other places as well.
I've been researching places over a year now, and I still haven't decided. I'm conflicted. I've been reading the threads on this site, which sometimes helps. Sometimes it makes me more confused. I'm stuck.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
I'm considering a few states: Montana, Utah, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, and northern Arizona. I'm open to considering a few other places, but I have some firm criteria. I recently started to consider Utah because of a few things I've read about it: conservative, low humidity, sunny, friendly, beautiful. Sounds great.
Here is some information to give you an idea of what I'm looking for. I'm single, mid-fifties (but no fuddy-duddy and not done with my life), not retired, no kids, need to work, currently self-employed (which moving won't affect), and I have a strong spritual life (non-denominational, Charismatic, Christian).
The main reason I'm moving, along with many others I've met here, is the pronounced unfriendliness and profund coldness of the folks here. I don't want to make this a forum for denigrating the people here. No place is perfect. Not everyone here is horrible. But the coldness is pervasive enough that stories are written about it in the newspaper. I mention this because ease in making friends is the most important factor in where I move to.
No matter how ideal everything else is, I won't move to a place that I'm told is a very difficult place to make friends. Since I'm single, friends become family.
When I mention friendliness, I'm not only talking about saying hello as you pass someone on the street or bump into your neighbor. I'm looking for a place where people aren't afraid to socialize or develop friendships over time. Is Utah like this? And where?
Another factor is weather. I like seasonal changes without the long, extreme winters North Dakota gets or the humid, long summers in Florida. Very low humidity is a major must-have. And sunshine would be great. That's another factor in my decision to move. I've got to have some sun. The sun doesn't live here.
I've lived in the Northeast and considered going back, but I want a lower cost-of-living and lower priced houses, which is the third reason for my deicison to move. I considered Missouri and other parts of the Midwest because of the great home prices.
I also heard that people are happy in Utah! I'm very eager to live among some happy folks.
I would love to live in a smaller city, i.e. under 50K or so, but close enough to a larger city for excellent health care, health food, etc. Having churches and communities of my faith are important too.
Looking forward to feedback and suggestions about Utah (or other states).
Thanks!

jacabe....Your situation and needs are very similar to mine and I have narrowed my search to Utah. Not quite sure whether to make the jump or not, thus my username.....
Every time I have been out there the people have been the friendliest Iv'e met. Here is a link to a thread that speaks to this....
http://www.city-data.com/forum/utah/...eople-wow.html
Salt Lake City and surrounding communities have a great four season climate with low humidity (watch the winter inversion at low lying areas of SLC), not too bad winters, but yet plenty of winter activity.
If you do not need much space housing wise I recommend looking in pricier areas that will have more social life for singles. It is said to avoid neighborhoods that are predominantly LDS and family oriented, personally this would not bother me but that seems to be more the consensus than not.
Park City is a great resort town with people all over the world coming to visit and live. All kinds of activities for singles of all ages year round. The neighborhoods around the University Of Utah are going to be a good bet too. Daybreak is a planned community that has alot of comunity facilities and planned activities for residents that would be good for singles.
I'll leave discussion on other communities and towns in Utah such as Saint George, Kanab, etc. to someone who knows them better and would care to post...
Hope this helps......

Thanks for the reply
Hi, "Should I Move or Stay Put!" Thanks for the quick reply and the info. I'll check out the link that you sent.
When you were in Utah, did you stay for any length of time? Tourists find parts of WA friendly. When you live here for any length of time, it's a different story.
I'm excited for you that you decided on a state. Utah is sounding more appealing all the time. I'll continue my research. Do you know when you might move?
