Great places to live in Utah??
Hey there,
My husband and I with our three children move to Utah in August from Canada. We are renting in Sandy we love the Sandy Draper area but just wanted some thoughts on great places to live in Utah. Clean, safe, good size yards, quiet, great schools, housing prices. My husband works in West valley so don't a too long of a commute thanks.

Sandy and Draper are hard to beat so your starting out with good locations. Cottonwood Heights, Holladay and Olympus Cove are also great areas. If you want some more culture and diversity check out the neighborhoods of Sugarhouse, Harvard/Yale and the Avenues....They have older homes that can be quite charming and are closer to the University Of Utah which has alot going on.
All depends on your price range and personal preferences....

I can...pick me!!! I live in Stansbury Park, which is a bit closer to Salt Lake than Tooele, but still in Tooele County. I love living here and would NEVER live anywhere else in Utah. What would you like to know?

We are actually looking at Stansbury Park! How are the schools rated, we have three children 8,3, and 2. Are there things to do, family activities, swimming, trails, movies, library, parks, camps etc. Is there shops or do you have to drive into the city? How are the bugs? I am from the courtry in Canada, but my husband is from france and HATES bugs!! Can anyone use the lake there or just the houses build off of it? We are LDS if you are are how are the memebership there? Why do you lovve living there yourself so much?THANK YOU!

The schools are the best in the county. They tend to be like others in Utah, however, and a bit crowded. The district realigned the boundaries, so next year should be much better on that front. We have a golf course, an outdoor pool, a private lake, lots of pocket parks. We have a small library that is looking to expand. Stansbury has family activities like Stansbury Days ( a town carnival of sorts), an Easter Egg hunt, we have a youth football team, a youth soccer team and a youth baseball team. Shopping is a bit nil in Stansbury itself (it is more of a suburb than an actual "town"), but we do have shopping in Tooele, albeit, it isn't as vast as going into Salt Lake. Tooele takes about 10 minutes to get to, and I can drive to West Valley in 30 minutes.
We have bugs like anyplace else. The usual ants, mosquitoes, flies, spiders. They aren't extreme. The county sprays for mosquitoes every summer. As far as ants and spiders go, you can have your home sprayed for them and that takes care of it.
Any Stansbury resident is free to use the lake. You can use it for non motorized boating, fishing (it is stocked with fish) and swimming. You do not need a fishing license to fish on the lake because it is private property. Paddle boats are also very popular!
LDS memberships are all over. We have, oh let me think, I think 5 ward buildings in Stansbury alone. I am not LDS, but have always felt very welcomed here. My daughters (12, 8) have friends that are LDS (my oldest's BFF is) and we all watch out for each other here. It is a very close knit community and just feels like "home".
We do not have trails, but it is all sort of connected with sidewalks. You will see tons of people walking all over Stansbury all the time. It is extremely safe. There are lots of children living here, so your kids would always have someone to play with, not to mention the church activities you have too. During the summer, kids ride their bikes down to the pool to meet up with friends and spend the afternoons.
When do you plan on moving? If you ever need someone to show you around, let me know. I love my town and love to show it off!

Thanks so much for your help! It sounds like a great place to live. Is there playground, parks there too? My family and I are going to drive out tomorrow and look around. Where do you think we should drive around to really get a good look and feel for Stansbury Park? Again thank you so much!

Yes, the pocket parks have playgrounds in them. Just start from one end of Stansbury (turn at Village Blvd. It is a stop light) and start driving all through the neighborhood. I will be home all day. If you are interested in driving by my house and saying Hi, I will PM you my address. Some people say it is easy to get lost in Stansbury. I don't see how, but...?? It is more of a neighborhood than a town. I really can't explain it much better than that.
I forgot to mention that we have an observatory. Street lights are not allowed in Stansbury because of this. The stars are crystal clear out here at night. It seems like you can see forever. The observatory has high powered telescopes and they have star parties once a month during the summer months. That is free, too!
