Default Is Park City (Summit County) and its residents representative of Utah in general??

Hey , what it is? I moved to Kamas, UT about six months ago, I work in Park City. I came out here from Chicago and currently live with family here in Kamas. It is very rural, and I prefer a more urban environment. I don't make too much money, but wish to get an apartment for myself out of Kamas area. I still would work in Park City for now, so I need a city that is not too far away ( Like an hour) from Park City. What do you guys think?? Also as the headline asks, " Is there a different culture in Park City, as opposed to other areas of Utah??" For exemplo, are people nicer or more friendly in other parts? Or are all Utahnes the same??? Thanks.

No one is the same, no matter where you move. I don't think that Park City is representative of most Utahns, however. It is more upscale up that way and very touristy. That isn't to say there aren't upscale areas of Salt Lake, but it isn't as condensed in one area as much as Park City.

I think downtown SL would suit you best! You are still close enough to the resort to commute. You could be there from downtown in less than an hour.

Default Park City

Hey Dizz,

Park City is a resort town, so there are lots of people coming and going all the time. My husband works up there too and there is definitely a different vibe going on but for the most part people are pretty friendly and willing to help. I would recommend finding a home or job in Salt Lake City if you enjoy the urban life. There are some really nice developments like Daybreak and lots of newer sub-divisions if you want to move west of the Wasatch Front.

What do you do in Park City?

I did spend the first 27 years of my life in Park City. It is definitely a world apart from Kamas and by no means is it representative of Utahns in general. It has boomed from a town of 3,000 when I was a kid into some monstrosity of a tourist town that I really cannot tolerate anymore. We've been scouting out housing in Heber as the next best thing. We like some of the shopping (Whole Foods) in Park City but prefer the more rural feel, and more down-to-earth people of Heber. It's basically a bedroom community of PC where all of the kids I grew up with moved to as nobody can afford PC anymore. The prices are a bit too high and Kamas would be the better choice for affordable housing. Park City is a neat place to take a ski trip, but you'll quickly tire of the people and hustle and bustle that are there day in and day out. Heber is getting more urban each year and is a nice compromise.

Hell no! Park City is a freak of nature; it's the city most different from the rest in the state. I'd bet most people in Park City at any given time aren't even Utahns; they are tourists and people who own vacation homes there.

I am amazed at how much more your money buys you in Kamas Francis and Oakley as opposed to Park City. Same price gets you a small condo with no garage or a 2500 square foot home with a two car garage on a quarter acre or more.....

And you can keep horses if your lot is big enough.

Midway is nice with Bavarian architecture and murals on buildings, "Swiss Days" celebration in summer, etc.

Summit Park neighborhood near Park City seems a good compromise for people who want to be near but yet outside the main glitz....lots seem a little topographically steep though. And a real moose may show up at your barbeque so no cooking moose burgers....

I once heard someone say Park City is the "Las Vegas" of Utah. I don't necessarily agree, but it is a little different from most of Utah. Largely because of things like Sundance and the fact that lots of people who live there (even full time) are from other states. In comparison the the SL valley, it is much more liberal and Summit county is one of I think 3 counties that voted democrat in the last election (Carbon and Salt Lake being the other two, though only by a few hundred votes for SL county).
