Cedar City??
Looking at our retirement options, Cedar City is one of our choices. It appears we can afford some very nice places, but my wife's biggest concerns are the types of crime and how much? We realize that most places have crime, but does CC have any bad rep from such occurrences?
Best...
Jim

I have lived just outside Cedar City for 15 years. I have read the arrest reports for most of the time. Mostly drug and alcohol offenses, and very few of those at that. Very seldom a violent crime, robbery or assault. I came from California and it amazed me then and still now how little crime there is.
Many people still leave vehicles unlocked. Not saying there is no crime, but Cedar still has it's small town charm!
Have you checked the paper?

Wow..Cedar City with crime...now that's an odd thought for me. But then, I haven't lived there for 30 years. We were down in LaVerking in 1993 to 1999 and don't remember as much about crime in Cedar City as was in St. George. However, I think the gangs moved in right about 2000. Still, it's quite a few years behind, as far as really dangerous crimes. They'd have even less if parents paid more attention to what their kids were doing. It's a very nice place to live and nowhere near as hot as St. George and the mountains are closer. Beaver is even a really nice area.

Jim...we lived in Washington City from October 2005 until this past August...it's an interesting place, we finally made a few wonderful friends, but it took us a couple years, and only due to the city data board here...honest we were not of the predominant religion and it was hard on us..being from CA I guess we were just used to diversity. Again, I would suggest renting before you buy anywhere..

Jim, I agree with Toby04--violent crime almost non-existent. I moved from Southern California in 1995 and Cedar has changed, but I think it is a great place to be. Email me direct if you need more info--

Another big difference is the lack of bars, I think there are only 2 in Cedar, most of the local restaraunts do not serve alcohol. You cannot get a pizza and a beer! I am not complaining! It is just part of what makes Cedar what it is, a nice place to live!

I love Cedar City. If you don't want very much snow go an hour south to St. George. Home prices are very reasonable also. We are moving there next year in August.I think the scenery is more beautiful than Cedar City. But if you are set on Cedar City, it's a great place. I have family there and would go there but my husband wants little or no snow.

Crime in Cedar City
Cedar City doesn't have a lot of crime, though the trend is more because the city is growing. Vandalism and theft from businesses seems to make the headlines from time to time.

Does anyone know about the employment in Cedar City, is it bad? good? We need to relocate from Yuma,AZ, 115 degrees outside right now, so one reason. Another we have the highest unemployment rate in the United States, another reason. We just need to relocate and soon, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I will say it's reallly cold there. If you like snow, they get quite a bit. We are retireing next year, but are going to St. George to stay further from the snow. All I have ever heard from people that have lived or been to Cedar City is that it is a great place to live. I lived in Northern Utah for 27 years. As far as crime, and jobs not sure.
