To Add more to my question...
How is it like to live in SLC??
My major concern is sunlight... How many days will be very dull and depressing..??
I dont hate snow, I dont hate winter, But I do feel a little uncomfortable if I dont see the sun for days and days....
I am OK if I see the sun one day and dont see for the next 2 days... But I kknow places where it is so dim and dull for 4 or 5 days continuously... Is it the same with SLC? Please let me know how the winters are specially....
I lived in San Diego, CA for 5 yrs and Dallas, TX from 2 years

Winters here are not as cold as they are further north in Montana and Idaho. However, we do get some cold weather. One thing that too many Utahns gloss over are our "winter inversions". Because of the mountains east of where we live in the winter there is usually about a two-to-four week period where air pollution becomes trapped in the valley. The air is becoming more and more dangerous during this period. In fact, I've heard that the air may be the worst in the USA when this happens.
Winter varies in its length here, but the period from late December until about February 15th can be very cold with little sunlight. However, you usually get some sunlight during the day, unless its snowing. I usually deal with this weather by taking a one week vacation to somewhere warmer during the worst of it. And, it helps if you get up in the mountains and ski! The winter inversion doesn't follow you to the tops of the mountains.

I am supposed to be at my new office on Sept 8th, so I'll probably be leaving sometime the first week of September so that I have the long labor day weekend to settle in a little bit.

I'm a Utah native. The winter blahs get to me from mid January till mid February. I think before then we all look forward to a white Christmas or the snow helps with our holiday spirit.
If the inversions get to you, you can drive up to Park City and enjoy the sunny skies and clean air.
BTW, if you do decide to go I-70 in Colorado to highway 6 in Utah, I think it's in Green River where you change roads. And the town near Provo is Spanish Fork not Lake. Watch out for the highway patrol on I-70 in Utah.

the inversions dont seem to last long enough to be a really big deal. I didnt find this winter depressing at all. Yeah we got a few days off ugly weather but then you get a BEAUTIFUL day with all of the snow on the ground. The perfect blue sky with bright white snow all around

Whoops. You're correct; thanks for pointing that out. I must've written "Spanish Lake" instinctively . An old friend of mine lives in Florissant, MO, which is near Spanish Lake, MO. I've visited that area many times....

If the OP does take the route I recommended, s/he should also be cautious on US 287 through the little town of Estelline, TX, northwest of Childress. 287 is a major trucker's route, and Estelline is a notorious speed trap.
