"Tubing the canal in Logan Canyon is now a thing of the past.
Construction crews this past week began erecting a chain-link fence around the access point to the Logan, Hyde Park, Smithfield Canal that valley residents and visitors have tubed down for decades. The canal company will post no trespassing signs soon, and a Utah Highway Patrol official says law enforcement officials will actively enforce them."
The Herald Journal Serving Logan and Cache Valley > News > Tubing canal closed: Safety cited for ban on popular pastime
The reasons given for this planned permanent closure to access is legal liability on the part of the canal company, and safety issues of parking access expressed by the UHP. Access to this popular venue is gained about 1 mile east of the Logan Canyon entrance.
It might be noted that, if impromptu, this activity had been ongoing for
decades, with apparently no great concern. But in this day and age the canal company and UHP are apparently more concerned with liability issues, due our legal system, than with making accommodations, in parking for instance, to ensure the safety of something so many have enjoyed for so long.
Until now . . .
