I've only been through there once and I was only there for about 20 minutes before turning around and heading back. From what I gather it is a very small town and that is about all I know.

Thanks Bordergirl,

Been researching it some more. Actually Fillmore seems to be about five times as large as the town we are in now. LOL Did you leave just because you were out of time or was it you felt there was no point in being there?

That is a long trip for us but it looks like we are going to have to make it. Hoping someone else will chime in.

Thanks Again Chris

Howdy Folks. I spent a fall and a winter in Fillmore - but it's been a little more than 20 years ago - so "grain-of-salt" my info, okay?
Small town for sure. A "truck-stop" style restaurant, gas stations at the north end of town. A couple of antique-car dealers in town. A little hardware store - and that was about it. Only one bar as I recall. Elk on snowy main street on Christmas Day.
The folks I knew were of the "rednecky" variety which you would probably be familiar with in Idaho. There was no real work to speak of. They had a Mushroom Factory which only employed a couple of people. It was, if I remember right, exactly 150 miles north to Salt Lake City.
The Chalk Creek mountains were rather nice and they run up to the resevoir at Scipio. I spent most of my days in those mountains working.
That's about all I know - or, can remember but try Googling up "Fillmore, Utah" and you might find their city-site.
We moved back to Salt Lake as soon as Spring came. It was a little too isolated and lacking in services for our tastes ... and we're small-town oriented.

I was only there to drop something off. We spent more time up the road in Scipio at the Dairy Queen

Default Fillmore info

My great grandmother was born in Fillmore in 1855. Her name was Selena Kinney, Her Father was Loren Kinney he owned an inn called the Peddlers Retreat he also had a brick yard that furnished the materials the state house was built from, he laid the cornerstone for the statehouse. Selena's mother and father were married by Brigham Young. There was a picture of Loren and his favorite chair in the museum in Fillmore. The chair was never finished. It was made from a cherry tree that Selena's sister climbed in and fell, breaking her neck. Loren cut the tree down and started to make the chair but it was left with one arm unfinished. I have a book that Selena wrote about her life. She talks about Brigham Young in it.
The Kinneys were one of the original 70 families that colonized the city of Fillmore.
I have been looking for old photos and information about the Peddlers Retreat, we would like to know if it is still standing. I have never been to Fillmore, My mother, who is 85, was asking if we could find any information on it.

I am from Fillmore, and I have never heard of such a place as the Peddlers Retreat. There was a book published on Millard County, called Milestones of Millard, it is a wealth of info on the county. I would try there. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

You can find Selena Kinney listed in the 1870 censuses for Fillmore. Loren Kinney was listed as a farmer. My husband's family is indirectly related. Loren is also in the Fillmore 1880 census, but Silena [the way it's spelled there] is no longer living at home. Let me know if I can help with any more information. I lived in Meadow five miles from Fillmore and my children went to school in Fillmore. We enjoyed the six years we lived in that area--great people and great schools.

Great small town to grow up in. Not a lot of crime or activity. Life is pretty inexpensive due to the lack of large chain stores and other places to blow your money. It is pretty laid back and peaceful. You can sit out side and hear nothing but the birds and the wind. Excellent place to raise children, not alot of problems with in the schools. But like every other place you must be willing to work with your children at home to supplement. I went through the school district all 12 years and had little difficulty proceeding on to college. Can walk down the street at 2 am and feel just as safe as during the day. You get a smile from everyone you see, and newcomers are very welcomed into the communities! Fillmore city takes pride in maintaining our parks and streets and keep the city looking great. Snow is removed promptly and creates little problem. Many areas to camp and enjoy the outdoors. Beautiful canyons! We enjoy the small town life, and it is great to see our child enjoying it as well. Pretty great place to live!

A small town. Very LDS. I think a non-member of the church might have trouble fitting in. I think its probably a nice place to raise kids. Crime free, etc. Not alot to do. As others have mentioned no chain stores. I think there is one movie theater (one screen) downtown. It was the first capitol of Utah and I think that was moved to Salt Lake precisely because the legislators realized it would always be a rather unpopulated area. I noticed a place that serves Chinese food near the south exit/entrance to I-15. There are a few gas stations and local stores. There is a small hospital.
