I think the posts here pretty well sum up what Green River has to offer. It is, for the most part, a stop along the highway. It has several gas stations and truck stops, several motels, a couple of small stores, and a few restaurants. Almost all of these businesses cater to the highway traveler, with possible exception of the small grocery stores. There is also a museum, a post office, and an RV park.
It is approximately the center point between Salina, Utah and Fruita, Colorado, the first towns of any notable size on either side of it along I-70. It is also one of only two fuel stops within the 200 or so miles between Salina and Fruita. The other is Thompson Springs, about 30 miles east of Green River, which consists only of one truck stop.
I can't help but believe that Green River exists solely for the purpose of allowing folks to have a place to stay while they travel between Denver and points west, such as Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, or Las Vegas. I've stayed there a time or two myself while taking just such a trip.
