By the way, I am moving out of Salem today. Great place to live, and EMS needs people right now, they are hurting for good EMS people.

Default Thanks for the advise!

Wow, thanks for the advise. A year ago, I was at a firestation and had asked two FF how they got started and if it was possible without firefighter background. They didn't know, because they'd gone the other way (FF first and had the deprt. pay for their EMT-I training). I'm still not too keen on the firefighting part, but if that's what it takes to be back in the rig, why not :-)

hey guys i actually work for The great and wonderful city of Layton. This area is a great community and our department is one of the best in the state. Layton also teaches the fire academy at the DATC in Kaysville as well as all of the EMT classes. We have a great program set up and great people teaching. You can get prices for all the courses on the DATC website. Most non-volunteer departments require both fire/emt certifications, but there are some out there that are willing to help with cert's. Hope this helps some

I was seriously looking into the fire department. I was starting school in florida before I moved and wanted to do it up here. Wow, once I looked into it that certainly closed that door. the pay for just an emt is a joke for one. I wanted to do fire fighter which also would need emt. Well last year with the unified fire authority (the main deparment here that does several cities) and last year 3500 people applied and 70 got hired. Those are odds im not willing to go to school for 2 years over.
