hi and thanks for taking the time to read this and assist if you choose to do so. I am a 30 y/o married male with 3 kids, all boys, 12, 8, and 3. we are tired of the heat and the lack of work in arizona and we have a friend that lived in utah for years, asked him about it and he reccomended springville, and spanish fork. are these decent areas? is the cost of living decent, compared to wages paid? right now we are paying 850 a month for a 3 bedroom 2 bath house, aprox 1350 sq ft. the last three years i have driven a tow truck and before that i drove big rigs. wondering what the work force is like for these fields in that area also... been through utah a few times while driving big rigs but never really paid attention to it, so just looking for a little help on the subject and the areas... thanks

Trevor

I don't know too much about the area down south, as I live in Tooele County. The general consensus is that unless you are LDS, Utah County is probably not your best choice. I don't know first hand. I know that my daughters (13, 9) have never had ONE IOTA of trouble where we live because we are not LDS.

My DH drives a rig and makes good money though. He stays local and is never out for more than one night.

Driving jobs used to be a dime a dozen. Just like most employment around the company, jobs became scarce for a bit. It does seem that I have been seeing more openings for drivers lately.

Check out the Utah job board.

Good luck!

I also do not know much about the cost of living in the 2 communities that you mentioned. Do a google search and see about looking for the local classifieds-for jobs and rentals.
I am of the opinion that it is hard to get a job that pays enough to make a rental/house payment here in Utah. Rents in the nicer areas of the Valley-for the sized house you may be used to are probably going to be over $1000/month.
I agree with Katydid on the employment front-the employers are firmly back in the drivers seat!

LDS is the formal and polite way to refer to Mormons, people who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They call themselves "saints." I'm pretty sure UT is also a right-to-work state.

That is a loaded question here on C-D..really. Some will say yes, it is an issue. I have lived here 15 years and it has never...I do mean NEVER been an issue for my family at all. Both my daughters have tons of friends that are LDS, as do I. My oldest even has a boyfriend that is LDS, so...

Mostly it will depend on your attitude once you move here. If you move here thinking it is a great place to live and you want to make friends and be happy..you will.

If you move here thinking that you are going to be outcast and your kids will have nothing but trouble, you will.

I think Utah is the best place to live. It isn't perfect. There is NO place you can move that is. The key is finding the *most* perfect place for you and your family, wherever that place may be.

well i agree with that to a point. if i took my family to compton i probably wouldnt fit in too good. there are some places that just dont accept people that arnt like them, and with me not have been in utah very much i was just curious if that was one of those places... im sure work and cost of living are compareable to other places, im just looking for a mellow laid back place thats not 130 degrees like it is here lol
