We are moving to Price this summer and I was just wonder what the town is like. We were there, but only for a weekend, so I didn't get a good feel of the town. How are the schools? I have a daughter starting kindergarten and would like her to go to a decent school. I have heard of the charter school there, what is that all about? Also, what is the percentage of LDS to non-LDS? I am Catholic and have heard a lot of bad things about non-LDS kids making friend and that worries me because my kids are sweet and I wouldn't want them singled out because of their religion. How is the housing? We are having a heck of a time finding a place to rent until we sell our house up here in Wyoming. Especially with out two dogs. Is there any other place other than the newspaper online that I can look? My husband will be going down next weekend, so I could give him info to look in town too. Also, when looking for houses for sale, some we like are in Wellington. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to living there? This will be the 2nd time we've relocated to a new state, so I am nervous. It's hard to make new friends and meet people as an adult, at least for me, because I'm shy!

My wife and I are building in Price. I have included the Sun Advocate Newspaper site. Last time I looked, there were 122 houses for rent in the area. We love Price. It has to be one of the friendliest places I have ever had the pleasure of living. Price is fairly diverse. There are more LDS churches in Price than any other, but the town has a large number of other religions. Also understand that it has a large Greek core population. I don't care how shy you are, you will make friends. Of that, I have no doubt.
Our kids are grown, so I can’t help you with the schools.

Great! Thanks for the info. I have been looking at the Sun Ad online. Not much of a selection right now! I am sure we'll find something. My husband is just worried we'll sell our house here and have nowhere to live. The housing market in Wyoming is insane right now!

Considered Emery County?
Personally, if your husband doesn't mind commuting from 20 to 45 miles, I would move to Emery County. It's clean, the crime rate is lower than either Price or Wellington, the people are easy to get along with and there is a Catholic church in Huntington...that's about 20 miles from Price, in Huntington. Emery County used to be almost predominantly LDS but now there are many religions There's also Elmo and Cleveland that are close. As a matter of fact, one of the Army Recruiters lives in Cleveland (I'm pretty sure he's still a recruiter). Huntington isn't that bad a town, it is small with only one grocery store, two gas stations ( a Maverik and BK's), there is a movie theatre and a arcade...the price for the theatre is extremely reasonable, and they do have Saturday matinee's with good family flicks and most top movies...housing costs are also reasonable; but, you'd have to go to Price for the closest Wal-mart, K-mart or Penney's: and if you wanted to go to the malls...you'd have to travel over the canyon. Hwy 6 is a beautiful drive but the driving can be dangerous. At night there are herds of Deer and Elk, and the roads are curvey, and other drivers are atrocious!. As far as your children, I think they'd get along just fine, better in Emery County I mean because of the values most kids here are taught...not saying they are perfect angels just that most seem to really excel here...and the schools are smaller as far as class sizes. And even though you say you're shy...I don't think it'd take long for you to make friends. I hope this helps!

He's going to be working for the Utah-American mines, three of them. Would those towns be closer then? He already drives an hour to work right now as it is so he's used to it.
My husbands aunt lives in Toelle, so we have driven through the canyon before. lol Not my favorite thing to do. I'm used to no shopping here anyway.
Thank you for the information on the schools!

I grew up in Price and my parents still live there. I am LDS, but most of my friends were not. There is a pretty open population there and very diverse. I lived in all the surrounding areas except Wellington, because I didn't like the commute, which if funny because I lived in Helper too. Helper is less of a LDS community in fact they are mostly Catholic. I loved it as far as asafe place, but for a teen it is a bit boring. The closest mall is Provo or Grand Junction. I desire somedays to move back, but for now I just visit often. I loved my neighbors. I had one lady who was from Crete and she was about 80 and still spoke little english although she moved her at the age of 16. As mentioned before, the main population is of Greek decent. This is the only area NOT settled by the LDS people. Just an FYI.

My wife is from Price and my In-laws live there. I think it would be a great place to live. The people there, both Mormons and non-Mormons, seem to be very neighborly. I'd move there if I could find the right kind of work.
As for your question about the schools in Price; my Father-in-law is an elementary school principal and my Mother-in-law is a teacher there. They often talk "school" with my wife who is a teacher and from what I've heard them say, I wouldn't worry about sending my own child to the public schools in Price. Good luck with your move.

My daughter went to the Charter School (Pinnacle Canyon Academy most call it PCA) from first grade all the way to sixth. There is a lot you can say about this school on both sides. First off I personally think my child got a bigger head start in learning than children in other schools. In her sixth grade year she was learning Algebra already. The fifth graders have a GIANT field trip to Washington D.C. No I'm not joking! They raise money so the kids are free to go and the parents only have to pay for an adult to come with them. That trip was really exciting! For the younger children it is a fantastic school. But about after the 5th grade in my opinion the teachers start to get worse and the whole school goes down the drain. So only until 5th grade would I recommend children staying there.
I hoped that helped a bit on the charter school. Now for the whole LDS and non LDS thing, my family is Catholic. We have also lived in Sandy and let me tell you: Price might be the best place in Utah for the least amount of Mormons (someone might disagree, but oh well) there is about a third Mormon and a third catholic and a third Greek. Sure you and your child will here bits and pieces of Mormons talking to others about "Young Women’s" and stuff like that. They try to use it as small talk, just remember who you are. Tell them you’re not Mormon and they should change the subject.
Have fun! Hope to see you here soon!

Wow, great info! Thanks! My husband is already down there, and we were talking about having her go there. I think I will do that. Sounds like he probably found a place for us to rent until we sell our house up here in Wyoming too, so hopefully we will be there soon!
