I don't think I'll get any argument. The #1 most dangerous thing about Utah drivers is...............
they blow red and yellow lights like nobody's business. This has cost countless lives and bodily injury. I see it DAILY at nearly every intersection with a turning arrow. Drivers will blow by making their turns in intersections 4 or more cars after it turns RED. They just think yellow means begin thinking about making another move, and the initial red means NOW think about making that move. This infuriates me, especially when I obey the law and as I approach an intersection WITH a yellow light already lit I stop to await the light change again and get honked at or I see the driver behind me yelling. If there are two lanes they go right around me through the red light. This is NUTS! and I have yet to see someone ticketed for it.

HUCK, Try posting facts.

We are not even in the top 50 worst driving cities.

Glad you bring this up. You are absolutely right. This happens every weekday at the University Parkway intersection by McDonalds/Walmart. If I were to proceed to cross straight southbound from UVU toward McDonalds in the early afternoon when the light turns green (and for a good 5 or more seconds afterwards), I would collide head-on with oncoming cars running the red light making a left turn in front of me EVERY SINGLE time. It NEVER fails. I've seen many very close calls with cars and several near hits with pedestrians also. All because waiting an extra minute or so is more painful than being dipped into a vat of boiling acid.

A couple of years ago, I even had some clown behind me in an old chevy truck slamming his fist into his other palm at me through his windshield when I stopped at red light on a left turn. Whatever. The light had changed to red when I was about half the length of the turn lane back. I refuse to risk my life or risk getting a ticket because some moron doesn't have the patience to wait a few seconds at a stoplight. People are just too uptight around here. I'd like to know where the fire is that they constantly seem to be racing off toward.

Relax folks. Enjoy the ride.

I feel that false accusations are rude, if calling people on their lake of facts is rude, then I guess I am.

Huck if I misunderstood your post to be about SLC when it wasn't, I am sorry.

Yeah, that does happen all the time, I see it everywhere. 16-yr-olds are taught that the legal limit is one car for a red arrow. However, if you go to traffic school (as a result of getting too many tickets), you'll be taught 3. Cops can't give tickets to the first 3 that turn through a red arrow. So, really, the legal limit is 3. The only reason why this would be more of Utah's problem than some other state's is that our intersections are much bigger, and can fit a lot more cars (hence more cars turning left after the light is red). I've seen this problem everywhere though. Las Vegas is particularly bad.

Motor,

You may be right, that is why my "rude" comment was a blanket condemnation about posters who post opinions as fact.

LOL reading this thread makes me laugh! I moved to Delaware about 3 years ago from Salt lake where I'd lived for almost 30 years. I know exactly what your ranting about.

However, commuting to Philly daily vs. the Pennsyltucky and Jersey drivers; I'd trade them in a day for Utah opponents again!

Only true is those cars, waiting for a *hole in the oncoming traffic* are positioned properly while they are waiting.
If you happen to be standing before the white lines, then you are not allowed to turn left, once the light turned red.
Therefore it is important that while you wait for a hole in the traffic that you are as much forward as you can, like to the middle of the intersection, so that more cars will be standing *inside the box*, while waiting.

Now here is the rub ...
How many cars do you see waiting like that in your daily traffic ?

As was stated above, our streets are quite big, and so three cars can wait easily *past* the white lines, during waiting *for a hole*.

Consider this scenario.
Light turns green.
Car one moves up just enough to get past the white lines.
Light turns red.
Only car one is allowed to continue left.
The rest, who are before the white lines are NOT allowed to turn left.
