Default Where in Utah to move?

Haven't been around in awhile.

We were looking at Boise, ID...but the prices are quickly leaving us behind. Now looking at Utah. Either Salt Lake or Ogden. Within 30 miles of each of those cities. Price range under $175,000. 3 BR, 2 BA, over 1500 sq ft. Decent neighborhood and town.

I went to a realtor site and there has to be at least 100 towns within 30 miles of these to major cities. So need to narrow it down a bit. We both have distant family that we really don't know in the American Fork, Toolee, Grantsville areas. Three generations back for hubby.

We are lds. So that isn't an issue. Any ideas anyone?

Izzy

Ogden looks easy on the wallet.

We've been told that we could buy a lot less house for the money moving to Ogden from our home in Davis county (closer to SLC). However, that hasn't proven true unless we move into the older and less kept up areas of Ogden. I worried about the schools in those areas too. I was looking for a home comparable to what we have now in a neighborhood comparable to ours here--South Ogden or North Ogden. The pricing is pretty much the same. That surprised me. Everyone swears Ogden is cheaper, but I guess it depends where exactly in Ogden you want to live.

That's a lot of area to cover. If you narrow it down a bit, you'll probably get more responses about your specific areas of interest. Do you need to commute to a job? Where? How long of a commute is acceptable? Do you want a small town or a big city? Are you concerned with school districts for children?

If you're considering the three places you mentioned that have distant family, then the only one I'm familiar enough with to recommend is American Fork. I live near AF and I think it's a nice city.

Boise is my husband & I's primary residence. We move in the summer's for his work. If you haven't written off Idaho just quite yet, look into Kuna (just outside of Boise). It is very family friendly, lots of LDS, & homes are a little cheaper than Boise. Also, Twin Falls is good too. Quite a bit smaller but 1 1/2 hours away from Boise & 3 1/2 hours from SLC. They are building a temple there.

I am an Idaho fan! We are here in North Carolina for the summer & I miss it terribly!
