Default What is Castle Dale like?

My husband is considering a job opprotunity in Castle Dale. What is it like there, how close are the other towns, and Where's the closest golf course?
(For my hubby of course). We live in a small town right now, which we know is larger than castle dale, but we're not sure what there is to do and what is there for small children?
Any thoughts would be great!!!

Smile I like it here...

I've been in this area for 15 years this month, it's home to me. I live about 20 miles from Castle Dale, but I'm familiar with the area. There is a town to the west that runs into Castle Dale.. Orangeville. The highway that is the towns Main Street has a town about every 10 miles in either direction for 30 miles. The Golf Course is 10 miles south of C.D. in Ferron. Price, the town with the Wal-Mart and K-Mart and JC Penny is about 27 miles north of C.D. The winters are cold, and we don't get all that much snow here in the valley. The summers are hot and dry. The landscape is mostly shades of brown between towns. I tell you though... you won't find much more of an overall scenic place to live and play.. the Manti La Sall mountains with Joe's Valley Resevoir 20-30 minutes to the west for summer fun to escape the heat... and the San Rafael Desert with it's red dirt and breathtaking scenic vistas of gorges and pinnacles and lets not forget the 2000 year old indian writings, all just a 20 minute drive eastward for spring and fall recreation... when the temperature on the desert is more tolerable. The sky is clear blue and you can see the stars at night. I live in a small town, and the housing is a bit less expensive in the more rural areas. 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths for a little less than 100K... but that's my house.. heh. ...What is your husbands job if you don't mind me asking? I hope I covered some of what you were asking.

I'm more awake now and I see that I missed a couple of items.. **The highway that is the towns(Castle Dale) Main Street has a town about every 10miles in either (north/south) direction for 30 miles.** I didn't mention that most of those towns are much smaller than C.D. ...The kids.. well.. mine spend time at the court shootin hoops... ride their bikes... make mudpies.. catch bugs ...swim in kiddie pool.. go sledding .. kid stuff....heh. We take them camping and fishing and out on the desert shooting pop cans with the 22 rifle. During school there are other activities...basketball, wrestling and also school clubs. There are also several dance/drill gymnastic teachers in the area. There is a really good museum in C.D. that we like to go visit. There are actually 2, but the one is more exciting for the kids. We live about half way between Price and Castle Dale.. C.D. is getting a new swimming pool.. and there is an outdoor wave pool and an indoor pool in Price. The wave pool gets a "bubble" over it in the winter and stays open year round, both pools are at the same location. The county Fair is in C.D. There is a pageant in conjunction with the fair, up in the hills. It portrays the settlement of Castle Valley. It is LDS sponsored, and has a "pioneer village" nightly before each performance. The village shows how life was in the valley in the late 1800's, with sample candy, cow milking, a functioning black smith shop and more. The pageant has been held at that same spot for nearly 30 years, you can drive the 8ish miles or take a shuttle bus from the Fairgrounds. It's free admission and in my opinion, is worth seeing. Each small town has it's own town celebration on different weekends through out the summer.. the 4th of July... the 24th of July ...the fireworks in Cleveland are outstanding on the 24th.. (they throw TONS of candy at the parades in the really small towns) Price has International Days.. and Helper, 7 miles north of Price has the Helper Arts Festival, they are also known as Utah's Christmas town, and have an electric light parade at Christmas. OK.. that should help you out.. Thank you for giving me the chance to tell you how much I love where I live.. I sometimes take it for granted. This was a good reminder...

(one more thing... I can spell 'reservoir'.. heh)

Default Good Morning

Hi
Nice to read about people who are happy where they live and to meet you.
I am a disabled stay at home lady who hopes to move somewhere down there in 3 years when my husband retires.
My family currently lives in SLC we are not happy here and want so much to move out into the country. I was raised in Manti and miss the quiet plus we love to fish and spend alot of time down in the Huntington, Price, Joes Valley and Manti mountains. It is so hard to find land or a house to buy when you are not rich I am very upset at how Utah is being taken over and all the building going on. So nice to find this place to talk to you people and maybe to see if you can give us some idea of how to find out about land or a house even an old one we could fix up.
We are close to retirement but want to buy now before it gets beyond our means. I have a 4 year old little Grandson we want to raise out of the city he has missed so much already with farm stuff animals and things. I love to raise flowers and gardens plus birds all there is in the country.
Could you please reply and tell me where you would buy and how you would go about finding something. Is there a newspaper or something put out with info.
I appreciate all your help and would love to chat if you want to.
Thanks so much Sheryl
Oh I just noticed that these posts are old so I hope someone replies.

Here is a link to use when searching for real estate. My parents are both from Helper and my dad, who's retired, lives there now and loves it. I would say that the Helper/Price area is a good place to retire. My only concern for someone considering moving there, is the hospital or medical care issues. I'm not convinced that you'll get good medical care there. Maybe the standard office visit you'll be fine, but the equipment at the hospital might not be the best and newest out there. My dad had an MRI at Castleview Hospital a few years ago. When he was rushed up to Utah county for further medical attention, the doctor/surgeon said that the MRI results from Castelview were useless in my dad's case. I don't know whether that meant the technician did a lousy job or the equipment wasn't up to snuff.

The local newspaper is the Sun Advocate in Price.

Good luck to you in your search and your future retirement.
