We haven't heard who will populate the new Daybreak town center. But the design would lend itself to smaller shops.
As for "chain" stores, we have them all in close proximately |

Here's question for the LDS members there at Daybreak:
How is church? We've loved our East coast experience with the church. We lived in Pleasant Grove for a long time before--and we liked it, but have felt so much more needed/utilized/inspired out here. Or better yet, what time do you meet as my husband will be out there in a couple weeks to check things out again--and one thing we wanted to do was attend the ward there. Thanks, Sage ![]() NY |

Does anyone know whether the area where the Daybreak development is located in affected by the Kennecott mining contamination?? I have read about an abandoned canal with arsenic contamination as well as other chemical contamination to groundwater.
Thanks, Jan |

Canal, no. It is west of Daybreak. Groundwater, yes. It is not arsensic contamination however. It is mostly sulfates from naturally occuring sulphur that is unearthed during the mining process. There is also some metal contamination. There is a large pumping and reverse osmosis filtering process that has begun to cleanse the aquifer. The cleansed water (cleaner than drinking standards) is just pumped back into the aquifer to help dilute it. None of it is being used for other purposes. Kennecott Copper has changed the way they operate and there is no longer any groundwater contamination happening. Most of the contamination happened decades ago before the EPA even existed. This question came up recently on the Daybreak website. I did a lot of research into it. Most of South Jordan's water comes from a reservoir in the Wasatch Mountains.

Thanks DP525 for your informative response to my question. We too will be moving to the SLC area and are still trying to figure out where to live. I visited for the first time last weekend, and really liked it, a very beautiful city. From reading the board here, I thought that Sugarhouse or the Avenues would be our best bet, but I was not impressed with what $350K would buy in that area. We really liked the Sandy/Cottonwood Hts. area too, maybe even Draper, but won't rule out Daybreak.
Thanks again, Jan |

Tell me more about the internet service from qwest. The HOA advertises it at 5Mbps but you can get faster by paying qwest more. I really hate qwest but Fiber you think would be a different storry. How are the actual speeds and reliablity?

There are several issues with the fiber network. First, the speed isn't better/faster/more relaible than cable or DSL. Second, cost of the service isn't included in the HOA fee, it's billed by the HOA as a seperate line item (HOA fee's are $42, telecom is $35). At the $35 price you receive 5mb. Upgrade to 11mb is an additional $15 billed by Qwest. Kennocott promises exceptional speed at very competitive prices. I'm paying more for my connection than open market Qwest customers and more than a ComCast connection at the same service level. If you live in Daybreak and decide to use another vendor for service, you still pay the $35.
Originally, I thought it might be the interior network wiring causing the bottleneck, but found it was fine. However, if you do choose to build here, make sure your builder knows exactly how you want your interior network and keep an eye on them when they install. Qwest offers TV via the fiber network. I haven't subscribed so I can't give you a first hand opinion. I do know several neighbors disconnected service as it was poor. Plus, you get the famous Qwest poor customer service to back up the system. |

DP works with me! I can assure you he's not involved in message board/HOA espionage
Glad to see that you've settled in and love your home, DP!! |
