I'm moving to Vancouver in two weeks for a job. I am 22 years old and other than a couple of people I will be working with, I don't know anyone. I'm just looking for suggestions on ways I might be able to meet people and make friends in the area?

Any recreational sports leagues in Vancouver? Stuff like that.

Thanks

Plenty of recreational leaques in Vancouver and Portland (What is your sport preference?)
More competitive in Portland and cities nearby.

@ 22 I would take some classes (PE) at ony of the 10-20 colleges in Vancouver-Portland area, as well as join hiking, Biking, and photo clubs

And of course join the local co-op
REI Store – Portland, Oregon - Sporting Goods, Camping Gear (They should get an REI.coop url, which WILL get you there too )

And keep engaged in all activities that suit your fancy. You will meet plenty of people on the trails and slopes. Consider wind surfing / sail boarding, very good local sport.

My company has leagues that play soccer and ultimate frisbee everyday @ lunch (as they have for 30+ yrs in Vancouver). In Colorado, we had a shooting, archery range + 1200 acre ranch (geo-cache) for active employees.

Indoor soccer courts + GREAT Nautilus outdoor 'turf' field have 'all-comers' events (Near SE 164th AVE and Mill Plain)

When the rain falls, get on over to http://www.powells.com/locations/powells-city-of-books/ lots of events to meet folks.

Be SURE to get to the beach for sunset several times in Sept / Oct, it is 1.2 hrs and GREAT colors in the fall evenings.

Good luck

Meetup has a very active group specifically for 20's and 30's:

20 and 30 somethings in Portland - AWESOME Stuff (Portland, OR) - Meetup

There's a lot of really nice people in the group and quite a few are new to town as well.

StealthRabbit,
That's really helpful info. Glad to know there are plenty of options.

Are there similar rec leagues for kids? We are moving up to that area in a few months and looking for ways to get our kids involved. Ages 9 & 7. We've looked but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks,

Thanks,
This is a 'full-service' sports area for kids.

What are their sports?
I have been out of 'kids sports' for 20 yrs, but the ball clubs are very engaged and successful.

Check out the local rag
near the bottom of this sheet (Youth activities and Sports Leagues) This should be a good start...
