My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Vancouver from Chicago due to his job. Currently, we live in an area that gives us a nice blend of both worlds--easy commutes without city traffic, but close enough to the city to enjoy it's amenities with our young daughter. Any advice on which neighborhoods might offer the same situation in Vancouver? Thanks so much.

Most of Vancouver is far better than most of Chicago (traffic / neighborhoods)

But... as usual too little info (job location (if you know)), schools (public / private), commute (5 minutes too long? 25 minutes too long?) Traffic (noise, waits, feeders, connectors, freeways, bus, street level rail, shopping, school zones... What lights your fire?).

I would look to Carter Park and some of the nicer areas in the Heights (do a search, this is discussed exhaustively on this forum and maps referencing neighborhoods). Salmon Creek, Cascade Park, Minnehaha, also have nice areas and are close-in.

I would avoid 4th plain from I-5 to I-205. Most of Orchards, , Heights near Mill Plain Walmart & I-205, and some of lower mill Plain, Some of Hazel Dell (near 99 and 99)

in general Vancouver has fairly cheap and safe living, not NEARLY as congested as Midwest cities.
