Default Vancouver Police Dept

I am currently a police officer in Houston. My fiance is from the Seattle area and we would like to move to that area so she could be closer to her family. I am originally from the Connecticut/New York City area. I have been in Houston for the last three years and I do not know much about Wshington.

I am interviewing with Vancouver in a few weeks. I have some questions about this department. I am also interviewing with Kent and Auburn, but I will inquire about those depts on the proper forum.

1, How are the officers at the Vancouver police dept? Are they professional and polite? I want to work with well rounded officers and not with paramilitary robots.

2, How are the community relations with those depts? Are the officers well respected or is there an "us VS them" mentality?

3, Does the mayor and chief of Vancouver give the proper support to their officers?

I thank you for any input you can offer.

I can't really help you other than to say that my interactions with the Camas PD have all been positive. My son is friends with a boy who's father works for the Vancouver PD and they're very nice people.

It has been my experience that police officers everywhere seem to hail from the Northeast, its the same here.

There are probably community blogs that will reveal your needs.

VPD has had some significant internal issues and, IIRC, a vote of 'no confidence' in the chief. Mayor just changed last yr, for first time in about 20 yrs. I only personally know one VPD officer, but can find more info for you from a family friend that works for the city.

You might consider Olympia, as it is much closer to SEA. Lacey is trying to rebuild their dept from a tragic execution of some of its officers at a coffee shop. It has been a very long and hard process.

OP, you might want to check out the website "Officer.com" which was edited by a close friend in the recent past. Good info on your original question and a lot of other stuff.
