Amboy weather isn't that much different than Portland weather. That is, it tends to be warmer and a bit drier. It's kind of a plains area, so wind is higher. But the basic idea - clouds and drizzle - the Pacific Northwestern mantra - still prevails.

Not sure about horse trails, but I do know Lake Merwin and Yale Lake are nearby. There's not any state parks there or anything, but I'm sure there's some small recreational areas along them. It is a big horse area, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are trails.

Swimmingly. It's a bit out of the way, but convenient to I-5 and Portland. It's very remote, space is good and property values are (relatively) moderate.

One of the few hardcore Republican parts of western Washington. My voting precinct file indicates the precincts voting at Amboy Middle School were all about 2-to-1 for President Bush. Nearby Yacolt (which you might also want to look at) is similar.

Not much else to add - other than that it's quite a commute to Vancouver (about 28 miles) and Portland (about 37). That having been said, if you're looking for pastoral rural Americana with a slow, traditional atmosphere, but still within easy distance of a major metro, Amboy-Yacolt is probably the best place in western Washington for it.
Hope that helps!
