I need some ideas for a young child to do in the Van area. We will be keeping a grand for a day or two. We are talking age 5. Any ideas?

Vancouver Sat Market (of course) Often there are kid centric activities.

Swimming was always tops for my kids (as long as you 'play' too)

more summer fun...
Check library and Parks and Rec activities (Be sure to check Camas library seperate... It is NOT in FVRL. (tho has a mutual lending status))
Camas pool (outdoor).
nature hikes (lacamas)
My toddlers LOVED to ride bikes through the sprinklers in nearby cemetery.
U-pick farm places (our u-pick farm had a HUGE play structure for kids.)
Alderbrook (Hockinson) has weekday hrs for public use. (Excellent facility with petting zoo and swimming pool and lake with paddle boats...)

Chuck E Cheese (Portland), I used the Powell St just west 1 blk off 205~ 10 min from Vancouver (there might be one closer or even IN Vancouver)
IHOP (kids often eat free / 1/2 price)

For winter, Camas has an indoor play park / co-op, which has been great for ~ 5 official yrs and 20 yrs previous 'pre-offical'. It meets at Harvest Church (very close to east Vancouver / via SE Payne Drive off of SE 34th st.
Camas Washougal Indoor Playpark (Camas, WA) - Meetup
Open 4 days a week, Monday through Thursdays, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
-Located at Harvest Community Church (non-affiliated) - 2436 NW Astor St, Camas, WA (near Dorothy Fox Elementary on Prune Hill)

I do remember that there were some reenactors that tried to involve kids when we visited. But really I thought Ft. Vancouver was pretty boring.

I like Sat mkt. but I doubt anything there would hold the interest of a five year old for long.

I think we could take him to Pacific Park where he could ride his bike and play on the play structure. He is very active, so he might like that. Its not much, but its all I can come up with right now.

Try the air museum next door for Fort Vancouver? Or perhaps the Children's Museum up by the Zoo?

Yes, we can take him to OMSI or the Children's Museum in PDX, but I want to bring him here for a day. The Air Museum is a shadow of its former self, no?
