Default Apartments in Washougal or Camas

We are being relocated in June and my 19 yo daughter and her boyfriend will be coming with us. They will be looking for a apartment near these two areas and was wondering if anyone can tell us the good places to look into as far as crime and price go. Crime is the #1 concern.
Thnx Lisa

Crime in both communities is freakishly low. However, the crime rate in Camas is slightly lower than that in Washougal. Both have very active police forces with some very cool people manning them. (One former police officer from the Camas PD was just elected to public office with 74% of the vote. One of his most vocal supporters was a man he'd arrested several years before. )

What price range are you looking to try to stay in? There are rentals all over the place, but not a lot of actual apartment complexes. Might be a good idea to check out the local classified ads in The Columbian and The Camas/Washougal Post Record newspapers.

Even with the low crime rates, each town has their own areas that are less desirable. But they're easily ID'd simply by driving through, though. If the area looks skeevy, it usually is. If you really want the skinny on it, though, it might not be a bad idea to call and talk with the local police departments. Ask them which areas of town they tend to have more calls and which areas less. I don't think that's probably necessary, though. Really, you can't get a pretty fair idea simply by making a scouting trip through the area.
